Hey,

So i have stuffit light install on my se from a .sea file.

but this verson of stuffit and the few others i've managed to find don't see the .sit files I have copped to my macintosh.

is there a way i can extract the applications then coppy them to my macintosh?

I'm unfourtly useing a floppy drive at the moment for this,
Could some one slip me some rawwrite disk immages or something? I have my system loaded and its like i can only install .sea files

See, thats not a problem because I can take .sea files use hfs and floppy coppy it and it works fine.

its just I cant handle .sit files with what i have on my se and I dont have another macintosh to have a hop over. ...well im missing my vga to db15

You need at least Stuffit Expander 6.0 which came free on some System 7 CD in their Internet or Internet Tools Folder.

see, that wont run on a system like mine,

Daum, I need to get a bridge.... ROAD TRIP...to my storage...

Could anyone make me a hfsexplorer disk full of software goodies or something?

AFAIK the last version of Stuffit/Expander to work on a 68000 (SE/Plus/etc) was 4.5.

Version 4.0.1 was the last to work under System 6.

You can get Stuffit Expander 3.5 & 4.0 from Macintroid's Tripod Website: http://macintroid.tripod.com/macintroid/id6.html They will run on System 6; but you did not mention what machine you have. Stuffit Expander 3.5 will work on a 68K Mac (Mac Plus, SE, Classic, etc.) Suffit Expander 4.0 will work on a 68K Mac with System 6, though a Mac II and beyond would be better.

Mac GUI has Stuffit Expander 4.0 for the download: http://macgui.com/downloads/?file_id=22845

On Jag's website, you can run Stuffit 5.x on System 7 on a 68K Mac though the installer wont let install it on System 7 - it wants System 7.1.1. Just install Stuffit 5.x into a machine with System 7.5 and then compress it into a floppy and copy to System 7.1 and expand it there. I've done this myself long ago so I know it works. See: http://www.jagshouse.com/stuffit.html

There is a note I seen while searching through the net; if you have and want more than 8megs of RAM, do not use the old Apple 32Bit Addressing Extension (I've rarely seen it used, how ever). Use Mode32 instead. Stuffit Expander crashes under Apple's 32Bit Addressing Extension.

If any of these links breaks the site's TOS, I hope the admins delete the links, not the post. Thanks.

Don't know. I know it will on 7.1 if you copy it, not install it from the installer, to the drive.

Its the installer that will not let you install it on any system before 7.1.1.

And you must use Mode32, not Apple's 32bit Addressing extension. Do know why but it causes Stuffit to crash.

...If you put Stuffit Expander 4.0/4.5 on your SE/30, then you will be able to open .sit files. You won't be able to open sit file made with later versions, but most software for that era Mac is available in the older .sit format anyway.

No HFVExplorer needed.

Please note: There appears to be a new application out called (Catacombae) HFS Explorer. It is apparently able to access .dmg and OSX .zip files. Never tried it. Needs Java Runtime.
