Help with Macintosh Plus 220-240v recap parts

Hi, got a Mac Plus for a great deal but all it does is make a pop kind of noise, sort of like my Mac SE did when it was working well, I believe this is the CRT turning on, it also makes a tiny little whine, some of the large caps on the left look like their heat shrink has been pulled downwards. No picture, no chime, logic board looks great though.

Can someone point me to a 220-240V Macintosh Plus analog board recap list? Could the PSU and flyback transformer be an issue too?

Can you describe more accurately what's happening ?

Plus is notorious for bad solder, so first is to have a look at the Analog Board for weakness on this side.

A picture will help also.

So basically, this Mac does nothing. Just wondering if that can be caused by caps and solder joints alone or do I have to look at replacing resistors and other stuff too.

Hard to be sure a 100 %, but i see some bad solders on the board, on the left of the second picture (the connector from Analog to Logic board)

I purchased replacement caps for all electrolytic ones including the power supply, made sure every one was rated 105C and over, I am looking forward to re-soldering the joints and replacing the caps and seeing if it will turn on.

Don't forget to replace those two X2 capacitors near the power plug (the yellow ones) when they go wrong they are nasty.

Thanks for reminding me, forgot these ones:

- 2x 4700pF, 250v Box: L=13mm
- 1x 474K, 400V Metal Poly: L=23mm

Is this the list?

Macintosh Plus Analog Board ( International version 230 volts)

- 4x 2200uf, 16v Radial: D=18mm, H=35mm
- 1x 4700uf, 16v Radial: D=18mm, H=35mm
- 1x1000uf, 16v Radial: D=16mm, H=25mm
- 1x 220uf, 16v Radial: D=10mm, H=20mm
- 2x 470uf, 10v Radial: D=8mm, H=12mm
- 2x 22uf, 50v Axial: L=16mm
- 1x 47uf, 16v Axial: L=14mm
- 1x 33uf, 16v Axial: L=13mm
- 2x 4700pF, 250v Box: L=13mm
- 1x 474K, 400V Metal Poly: L=23mm
- 1x 3.9uf 35v Bi Polar: D=18mm, H=35mm

Found it here.

Maybe nice for people with the same question ( like me ;D   )

Yes it is.

All of the above are easily obtainable from suppliers like digikey or mouser. Be careful of the ginormous import taxes though, I just ordered all those caps except for C1, more about that in a minute, the price for all the caps was $24, and add $18 for S/H. I ended up paying 26 euros on top of all that just in custom duties! Grand total: about 70 bucks!! This is STEALING!

Anyway, let's move on about C1 (1x 3.9uf 35v Bi Polar: D=18mm, H=35mm)... it's not being produced anymore  :'(

So, do you guys have like a suitable replacement for this one? C1 had a large failure rate, even back in the 1990s... It's very likely this cap in particular is the culprit.

I got all the caps now, I created a new thread asking what location the axial ones go e.g. c1, c2, c3 because I removed them and accidentally forgot to see what their values are, so I dont know which axial cap goes where. I used RS for some parts (free fast shipping for anything, even a $2 total part), Jaycar for others, they are all 105C+.

Also on another note, I sent my cousin and PC all the way from Adelaide to Rucorn, UK and didnt know they paid VAT and custom duties on receiving a parcel, here is AUS I dont believe Ive ever needed to pay anything except for shipping, so example, bought a motherboard from the US, paid $50 + $20 shipping, arrived at door and didnt need to pay a cent, just got my parcel.

It’s what everybody’s using.....

Be one of us!!!

...And I’m sure you can get it there, rather than ship from USA

Thanks! Film capacitors don't have a polarity, right?

Now I should have all the parts to finish recapping the Pluses and the 512K Hyperdrive! 128k will remain (somewhat) stock as long as possible...

Correct. No polarity.

I bought 10 to do my 6 compacts (Price break at 10 units), and still have 8 left.... I have some work to do..

Also important, they have a high ESR due to their construction.
