Happen you have a 512K(e), there is an opportunity to exchange dependency on an aged internal FDD for dependency on a large external FDD-like storage drive here. Booting into 6.0.8 from startup becomes a possibility.
What makes it capable of booting a 512K into 6.0.8? Is it the ability to hold the full install vs. trying to configure a System & Finder which will fit on a single 800K disk?
Also, this seems a little pricey starting point for an untested, very yellowed unit. I have an HD20 which does the exact same thing and will not load on a Mac, nor will it ever without a new drive mechanism. And without the unique drive, the box is virtually useless except as modified housing for another drive, possibly tapping the power supply which has the same specs as that used in Apple's external SCSI boxes. A much cleaner, fully tested functional one sold on eBay a month ago for less and this one a week ago:
But thanks for bringing it to our attention, I'm sure the Hard Disk 20 needs no introduction as to its usefulness on this forum.
I was perhaps a little elliptical. Essentially, no more to do than switch on. No floppy to insert. No floppy to curse. Your points about cost and mechanics are real, as also is the convenience (and storage capacity) of an HD 20. ROMs and INIT. have to be attended, of course, but that is part and parcel of the 'technological advance' represented by the HD 20. When my Dove SCSI card arrives I shall be able to compare the two storage devices for convenience and utility with my 512Ke/2MB.
