Happy MARCHintosh - My LC475

Wanted to show my MARCHintosh project. Here are the mods-

1) Board and PSU recapped (by last owner)
2) Modified board to run at 33MHz (by last owner)
3) Full 68040 40MHz, coveted 02L88M, with added heat sync
4) BlueSCSI v2 with Mac OS 8.1 of course
5) 1MB 70ns VRAM
6) 128MB 50ns RAM
7) CayMac ROM SIMM, with Will's/BMOW's modifications to ROM (used the CayMac SIMM programmer to flash WIll's 475 ROM)
8) Soft Overclock control panel, extension and control strip, running at 40MHz (FYI I've noticed a marked improvement in stability with the heat sync when using the soft overclock)
9) MacBatt CR2032 replacement for PRAM battery

So with the Norton Utilities benchmarks, take that Quadra 840AV! Mine is the better 68K My next project is to continue working on disassembling the LC475 ROM and do some cool hacks and changes. Got another thread going on that.

It's like we're in the golden age of 68K Macs right now.

Noice! I loved seeing my 475 beat out a la-di-da 840av too (except on FPU stuff, I still have the LC040). I assume you disabled that looooong RAM check with your ROM upgrade?

Yes, the POST is so fast now, really incredible. I have this hooked into an LCD monitor. It really doesn't take long for the monitor to wake up. But by the time it does, the desktop is just about loaded. So all in, maybe 10-15 seconds to fully boot. I love it

Wow! I’d have been very happy if my LC475 had performed like that! As it was, because it wouldn’t run half my Mac Plus software and was too slow for my liking with much of my ‘040 software, I was dissatisfied with it. It got relegated to the task of a LocalTalk bridge for my Personal LW NT.

I'm certainly learning that the LC475 is in the odd space between the smaller and cleaner 128KB ROMs, and Super Mario. But with Netscape v4, the Dayna WiFi with BlueSCSI, I am actually able to get out to a lot of websites. It is pretty usable. Might even be worth doing a short-term daily-use.
