And yeah, that was a thing. Jobs really didn't like the Molar, despite it being a Johnny Ives-pushed design. Whatshisname, the guy who "designed" it was pushed very strongly in this direction by Ives. I think that what Ken posits, that it was an experiment with certain manufacturing techniques, is accurate. Its why I'm considering painting my molar's yellowed transparent plastics bondi blue.
