G5 Powermac, G4 iMac

Cosmo

A friend's company was trashing some older mac's (an advertising agency) and offered some for me to rescue, of cos, i could not turn them down, free and all..

Haven't yet turned them on as they were in my car for hours in -7 celcius outside. He said he installed fresh 10.5 and 10.4 on them so they do work.

PowerMac G5 2.0 Ghz DP, with 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD

- Very stock, with power cord, some stickers on the case.

- This won't be an keeper, i'll see if i can put this together for small-scale graphical workstation for an artist we know.

iMac G4 17" 800mhz

- Too bad, no powercord or speakers.

- i'll upgrade my old 15" 700mhz with this, have speakers on that unit. Wonder what shall do with the 15" -model. Probl. an another "moomin-mac" for my daugher or some kind of digital photoframe or something.

Cool! I thought the iMac G4 was one the best designed Mac cosmetic wise. Defiantly in my top 10. I would take the 15' and incase it somehow in a glass or plastic cube and put it on display. Those PM G5s do pretty well for editing.

The iMac G4 17" just booted up after finding the powercable, had an clean installation of 10.4.6 inside, 80Gb HDD, 1GB RAM and Airport. Good one! I think i'll keep this on 10.4.11.

The Powermac had an 10.5.4 on it, only 1.5GB RAM and stock 160GB HDD. I'll see if can find more RAM for this if this get's donated away. Some issue with the RAM, i thought there were 2x 1GB and 2x 256MB. Those 1GB's are seen only 512MB on system. Common issue with G5's.

The G5 was given to a friend for some basic photoshop/editing use. The G4 733 i once gave him, was a little bit of.. slow. He'll get bit more used to Mac's now. Luckily he should have some RAM to add to this one and i'll give him a bag of RAM -modules to try on.
