G4 MDD - Appleshare delaying startup time?

I always knew Appleshare made the startup process a little longer, but how long is "normal"? On a semi-fresh install of OS 9.2.2 on a 1.6Ghz MDD, it's freakishly long (over 2 minutes)... Any reason?

I heard somewhere it could be caused by Appleshare looking to mount non-existent shares (that used to exist), so I deleted the Appleshare prefs file, but nothing changed.

I have noticed the same thing, but it generally doesn't take 2 minutes (a few seconds, maybe). Have you checked your RAM? Is it running okay otherwise? How's Open Transport configured? Are you connected to a network?

Sorry for the questions, but the answers might shed some light on this.

Whoops! I was silly and forgot it was 1.25Ghz.

Ahh, I found it. The "Servers" folder. Deleting everything in there has alleviated the delay.

the file "AppleSharePrep" stands for the Servers to be mounted at Startup, so it is no related to slow AppleShare's startup but can be deleted.

And an AppleShare related folder (can't remember the name) inside SystemFolder contains the Aliases to Shared folders on your Mac. If this folder is full it does slow down a lot AppleShare Startup.

I only had 2 servers. Not exactly "full", so I'm guessing it was just trying to mount them. Also, I had tried deleting the prep file previously, which didn't do anything.

What is "properly networked"? Assuming you mean LAN-wise, it was properly networked. The two servers in the "Servers" folder just didn't exist.

restarting extensions Off then re-delete all appletalk prefs & users&groups prefs and then pram is the best one can do

otherwise, as a LocalTalk server, nothing's better than Jaguar 10.2.8 ...

i'm sure there is another folder which hosts local shared folders aliases (it isn't the "servers" folder)
