G3 Kanga Li-Ion battery - Safe to use?

I purchased a G3 Kanga with a still working Li-Ion battery. It provides about 2-3 hours of battery life but charges very slowly (multiple hours charging time). But maybe this is normal for such old devices.

As I’ve read of battery fires regarding old Li-Ion batteries, I’m unsure whether i should still charge and use it or throw it away (a notebook without working battery is much less attractive for me).

Has somebody experience with these old batteries? I know Apple had issues with fires with the 5300 series.

Said batteries never made it to consumers. The recall was internal at Apple, only pre-production units were affected.
Your Kanga battery should be perfectly safe. No more likely to light on fire than the battery in your modern smartphone.

Do remove the internal PRAM battery though. These leak and damage the logic board.

Disclaimer that I don't have that specific model, but, yes, this was normal for laptop batteries basically until just a couple years ago.

If the battery you have isn't leaking, misshapen, getting dangerously hot to the touch, etc, then I'd say you're good to go! >2 hours on such an old machine is really great, so I'd say if the machine otherwise "seems" "portable" to you (hinges good, will survive being put in a bag and moved around) then have fun!

PRAM battery was already replaced with a new one (NiMH Type). Luckily there were no damages caused by the old battery except of green corrosion on the battery plug itself.

It stays cold nor is it leaking. The hinges are in a perfect shape too. But usually hinges are only an big issue on the 1400 series i think.
