g3 b&w running 8.6, how to get 1440x900?

Is it possible to hack the avaliable display modes to add my monitors native resolution of 1440x900 in os 8.6?

I may just need the ati driver for this card, but It seems like it was supported by default. (ATI Rage Theater)

Check the os9forever website, there used to exist a slightly modified driver to support widescreen resolutions such as this on ATI cards.

Oops... didn't see I put "6.6" but luckily you all knew what I meant.

I was searching far and wide last night but I cannot find a source for anything. A few sites link to ATI drivers but all the links are dead.

I think what I need is an apple supplied OpenGL package "1.01" but I cannot track it down.

Have you checked this site?

I have a B&W G3 (also 8.6) with an original Radeon card. For whatever reason the latest drivers give me a slightly wrong resolution that is 8 pixels wider than the monitor's native resolution. But the original Radeon Mac retail drivers from that site work great. I am using 1440x900 over DVI. But I believe as long as your monitor has proper DDC and your card can read it you should be able to do that with analog VGA as well.

I've been to that site but I've been unable to find a download link that works :-(

EDIT: nvm found one that works and im going to give it a go right now.

Thank you

ok, I have the 1.1.1 drivers and the latest openGL but still cant hit that resolution :-(

might have to find the card that belongs in this machine... this Theater card is just too weird I guess.

There's a resedit hack for running a specific PCI video card at arbitrary resolutions which someone posted here - in an 8500 under OS 8.something I think. Search?

I could only get 512 x 384 outta' my G3 under 6.6, IIRC . . .

. . . so I'm watching this one with interest.

< . . . fixed! :o) >
