Here is a 1996 graphics and 3D modeling program for Macintosh. Apparently, it got 'Macworld Magazine Best Of Show' award...

Seems cool, and for only $2.50, I couldn't resist! Amazingly, everything is in the box. All the magazines, manuals, and install disk!

I remember that.  They also did a bunch of other programs, including a very cool app (and eventually Photoshop plugin.)  It'd use fractal equations to help scale bitmap images by "guessing" what a pixel should be.  It works really well.  You can take a 300dpi image and blow it up to stick it on the side of a building.

I was always fascinated with their stuff.

Could you be thinking of "Genuine Fractals" by Altamira, later by LizardTech, then ON1 Software? It was renamed "Perfect Resize" and now "ON1 Resize." I use it extensively in my workflow to make large prints from clients' images. It works very well given the often sub par resolution files I'm provided. The canvas "wrap" feature saves me countless hours a week.

Oh, you know what, I think you're right.  I think it was Genuine Fractals.  I knew it has Fractals in it, anyway.

This is reminding me of my friend who works for Canvas on Demand customer service. You wouldn't believe how many emails they get from old ladies who took an incredibly blurry screen photo of a CRT showing Windows XP asking "can you put this on a canvas?"

Every day. Mobile device screenshots too: I wish the difference between saving an image and taking a screenshot was clear to more people. Plus... having a customer adamant they don't want their image adjusted freak out because the clock and icons are in the print, even though you asked them if they want you to fix it.
