Folders Disappearing in Icon view under 9.2.2

MacFox

So this is something that never happened to me before. A while ago I reinstalled OS 9 on my Sawtooth and at some point while I was using it, almost all of my folders disappered.  When I switched to list view, I could see my folders again.  This problem only affects the root of the drive (System folder, Applications, etc.).  The subfolders are unaffected.  Switching back and forth between Icon and list views hasn't fixed the issue.  I also tried rebuilding the desktop, but that didn't fix anything either.  My Sawtooth has two HDDs, one for OS 9 and one for OS X.  When I view the OS 9 drive in OS X, I have to use the list view in order to see all the folders on the root of the drive.

Any ideas of how I can get my folders to appear in Icon view again?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting, you said you rebuilt the desktop, did you try a disk check? When you reinstalled OS 9 did you remove everything from the system folder?

I didn't try a disk check.  When I reinstalled OS 9, I formatted the HDD first before installing, so no previous system folder was on there.

Oh and try other diagnostic software like TeachTool Light or Norton Utilities.
I'll check those out.

Update: I ran Norton Utilities 6 and it found a BTree error along with a bunch of minor issues.  I had it fix everything, hopefully that worked.  Also, Turns out the missing icons didn't actually disappear, they were instead pushed so far down and to the right that you couldn't see them unless you scrolled all the way.  They were as far down and to the right as you could possibly go.  There was so much white space, I thought they were gone.  I had to manually drag them back to the right position, which took about five whole minutes due to the long patches of blank space.  Not sure how the icons got pushed so far down like that.  Could it have had something to do with the errors Norton had found?

I just had this issue on OS X today and remember having it before but I don't know what causes it, it may not be a disk problem like I first thought. It's weird that Mac OS/OS X(at least older version of it) remember the exact location of files.

Pretty sure if .DS_Store is deleted, it will be recreated.  I don't think it's critical.  I could be wrong though so backup before trying it.
