Error 01FA00

Hi everyone!

I have an Macintosh Plus with analog board U.S. version and i have this error code 01FA00, I can not find information about this error.

I opened the computer and only found a burnt capacitor (C 39, 0.1uf - 250v). already replace it but the problem still, any ideas?

you can get a hair dryer or a heatgun on low, heat up the ROM and see if the problem goes away?

I have seen ROMs go temp sensitive and will flip their bits over a temperature range. Usually caused by the internal buffer transistors going leaky, because the ROM itself is MASK. it cant change.

Hi everyone

Finally i could change the rom chips, now the third problem, I have the system disk but I can not get it to load, my problem well be the floppy drive or the disk, I have no way to test the disk on another computer.

Has that system disk worked in the past for you?

Are you booting the disk with the Mac completely reassembled?

I think, that the disk is defect. It is not possible to write a 800kb disk with modern computers, you need another Mac like a SE or SE/30 to do this. There are some tutorials in the net, but you need a Mac with a superdrive or an external 800 KB drive to do this task.

Was the floppy drive cleaned and lubricated? Sometimes cleaning the reading head with alcohol (isopropyl) solves some reading problems.

I think, that the plus can read disks from OS 1.1 up to OS 6.0.8. What is the OS on your disk?

Where are you from? Perhaps someone can send you a working disk? I can produce disks from OS 0.97 up to OS 7. But I am from germany.

But also with a working boot disk you will have the problem to get software to your computer. Even for a serial communication, which can be a solution, you must have a programmdisk for your plus.

When I came into this problem I bought a SE/30 with networkcard and an external 800kb disk drive. I can download software with my windows PC from the internet, put it in my own webserver with only standard html und download it from there with my SE/30 and Internet Explorer 3. This worked for me.

Hi, thanks for the answers!

I never used the disk, i bought online. I think the same "the disk is defect", the floppy drive is already cleaned and lubricated, when I enter another disk it marks me error so I think the unit works fine, but I'm really not sure about this.

I am from Mexico city, the capacitors I bought here, but the disk and rom chips online. Locally have not found who has some macintosh running and can help me to create de discs. I'm looking for alternatives since I have the hard drive scsi but it is damaged or install a zip drive but I do not know if I can make it work without the floppy disk.
