I am currently mirroring download.info.apple.com because we can't expect it to stay online forever. I will post a link when I'm done.

:)

Oh, joy... I get to manualy download the OS 9 updates, as they require you click an "Agree" button :)

I urge you not to do this. Apple will come after you with cease and desist letters or potentially a lawsuit. While the software is indeed old, the copyrights are still active and will be for some time--several decades, in fact. Apple has already gone after other sites distributing their system software and vintage software products such as The Mac 512 (which is by far the most famous example). Read the statements on their site if you would like to see what Apple sent them.

Furthermore, by clicking "agree", you essentially have violated the license agreement by distributing the software. Apple is the only entity allowed to distribute this software to my knowledge (users groups used to be able to give out system updates but that is no longer the case as of 2001).

Let's keep it legal in our vintage Mac community and respect the software industry as well as the companies who produce our favorite products.

I urge you not to listen to Scott Baret when it comes to copyright. He insists on getting a boxed copy of Shufflepuck Cafe for each Mac he runs it on.

ahh thats the worst kind of nerd. one insistant on enforcing the copyright laws of an ame**can company on the rest of the world, with software that doesn't count any more, while not even an affiliation with that company. i'm not an american, so go jump in the lake. ;)

for every american licence i click agree to, i am noding my head and giving the screen the bird. :-) nb. i'm not overtly anti american, i have a good mate who is american and chill scott, i don't have anything against u personally mate, but i do not like a country who forces its worst bits of its culture on the rest of the world, thereby encouraging them to become as depraved as they. similar to what the english were like during the begining of the last century.the decent individuals i like, the depraved culture as a whole, and proponents thereof i dislike muchly.

Oh yeah, and i'm sure he insists on "legaly" obtaining system 6.0.8 on floppies, even though apple provides it for free!

Guys, be nice. It's Scott's prerogative if he wants to legally obtain software for his Macs, and he certainly has a point that redistributing Apple's archives may have some legal ramifications. Though, frankly, I can't see Apple's legal department coming knocking – they're far too busy blocking dictionary applications from the App Store [;)] ]'>

Um... the "Agree" button simply verifies that you're not from Cuba or a couple other countrys.

Yeah, seriously. :-/ Back off.

Why do you guys ALWAYS insist on picking on Scott concerning software? As Tom says, you shouldn't give a damn about how he decides to purchase and use software with his Macs.

In fact, I actually appreciate Scott doing this because this is his way of saying he appreciates software by following the original copyright laws, *cough* "abandonware" *cough* or not.

and macgeek, your posts towards Scott were really rude. Why do you need to assume something like that? You're just acting like an arse just to be one.

Go on, hate on me because I couldn't care less.

/end rant

I fear your argument is falling on deaf ears. Some people have no sense of respect for the wishes of others. (In this case, respecting the author's wishes/interests by abiding by copyright law until they release the software themselves.) Some people also have an enormous sense of entitlement. (In this case, feeling entitled to something just because there is no apparent loss if they take it.)

Well, I do get your point II2II. It's just that people shouldn't laugh at Scott because he wants to spend more money to buy software. :-/ That's really unnecessary and being an arse.

Actually, I was agreeing with you. ;) After all, Scott is the one going around and legally obtaining software. Those who pirate old software and justify it with arguments like, "it's abandonware," are the ones who seem to lack respect and have a sense of entitlement.

Ah, I misread what you were saying. My apologies.
