Docked Duo !

I found a local fellow with a Duo in a dock! He was not sure which model it was. The price was almost reasonable, no ac adapter and no key. The duo is locked in place! I bought it. Took it home and went into the basement', grabbed a monitor, keyboard, mouse and cables. Set it all up and pushed the start button. Away it went. It is a Duo 230, O.S. 7.1, 12mb of ram,120mb hardrive. Works well. Now to get it out of the dock. Took care of the lock, pressed the release button, and out of the dock it came!! Wow. Is this thing small. And it is in excellent condition!! Not sure how long it has been in the dock. I have to find an ac adapter somewhere. Interesting little unit.

I'm reasonably sure that the AC adaptor from a clamshell iBook will work.

Duos are really awesome... I used a 230 as my main computer for a couple of years (until I dropped it on concrete).

I had the dock apart and it is interesting too. There is a nice removable 33mhz 68882 FPU in there!! They are hard to find. So if I really need one I can pop it out and use it elsewhere. Nice. There is a place for a scsi harddrive too. I will wait before using the Duo without the dock. The powersupply it needs is 18-20V M7783/ M2683. I have a Powerbook yo-yo adapter that has a plug in that fits the duo. But it is 24V@45w. I do not want to take a chance and fry the Duo. I did accidentally fry my first PB180 with a wrong adaptor that happened to fit.

Nice score! Any NuBus cards or a HDD in that Dock?

For the record, you can use any PowerBook 1400, 3400, G3, or Clamshell iBook power adaptor. You can't, however, use a PowerBook 190/5300 adaptor, or an adaptor for a TiBook, iceBook or anything newer.

You will not fry the duo with the 45W adapter. Honestly. Go ahead and plug away. I have three duos and regularly use a black PB 45w adapter with them.
