Dinosaur Discovery Kit by First Byte

Some programs have a habit of never showing up on eBay, Amazon, and the inventory lists of the independent sellers such as B&R and Wayne's. Indeed, I have been searching for Dinosaur Discovery Kit for many years and finally saw it in the inventory of Wayne's Computer a few days ago. It arrived today and for the first time since 1994 I am able to utilize this early First Byte program. (We had this where I went to primary school but when the Mac Pluses were shipped out of our campus that year a few of the older programs went with them).

First Byte software seems to be extremely hard to track down. I'm still hunting for a Mac version of Spell-A-Saurus (I did find an MS-DOS copy two years ago). It's also quite old--Dinosaur only runs on original 68000s (not even a 68020 or 68030 will run it). It seems First Byte wrote the programs specifically around certain processors, as there are issues with the Amiga version running only on certain processors as well. The box even states "no Mac II" on the system requirements.

For their time, the First Byte programs were fairly advanced. Dinosaur is a reading and language arts program with a prehistoric theme; most First Byte titles were educational in nature. There is speech in the program, and it's far superior to the MacInTalk voice of the day (this speech is recorded).

As a bonus, it has its original box, manual, promotional insert, and tech support cards. The box is in pretty good shape overall, definitely one to add to the collection.

I have an old version of Math Rabbit (also in a box) on the way as well; it should be here in the next few days. I also ordered a brand new laptop case for my newly refurbished 180c if that counts.
