Designing Cards and Drivers book, second edition vs Third edition?

HI all!

First off, I've only been reading the forum for a few months (when I got my first 68k Mac) but wow is there a lot of great information here! Thanks to all of you for making it easy to get my Mac Portable up and running. I'll be making a separate topic about it soon.

For my actual topic, I've been trying to learn as much about the Portable as possible and have gotten a couple of the Apple books discussing the hardware of it. I've been planning to find a copy of Designing Cards and Drivers for the Macintosh Family as my next acquisition. Since both the second and third edition can be a bit pricey right now I was only going to get one for the time being but I'm not sure which. Since I'm only interested in the Mac Portable for the foreseeable future I want which ever one has the most information on it. I can find a PDF scan of the second edition so I know what it contains but I can't find anything for the third edition. Would someone mind chiming in about the relevant contents of the third edition or better yet photos of the table of contents?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard!

Edition to edition, the Cards and Drivers series appears to simply bring the latest edition up to date in terms of machines released in the interim. I thought I just pulled 3e out of my bag for comparison to 2e on the shelf  .  .  .  must have left it at work.

So long as you search used books sites and stay the heck off eBay for Mac references, prices should be (at least they were) much more reasonable.

Thanks for the welcome and the info! Sounds like I'm probably fine just getting the second edition for now then.

Haha Yeah, eBay seems to be quite bad for the Mac reference books. Strangely the third edition of Designing Cards and Drivers appears to just be fairly uncommon. The cheapest I can find are a couple $50 copies on Amazon. I will just presume everybody loves their copies so much that they can't bear the thought of parting with them.
