Conquest-ish... PB G4 A1046

Bought this for $40 on an Australian "overclocking-related" forum. Seller forgot to mention that it didn't include a power adaptor, and described it's condition as "locks up occasionally when using it, probably just needs a new HDD".

It got half way through the OS X installer and this happened.

Rebooted and this happened.

Now it's totally dead :|

Should I try and fix it, or would I get more parting it out?

Hi,

was that on OCAU? :)

I picked up two PB G4s off there recently, one was a PB Ti 667, which I got working 100% by cleaning the RAM slots. Fixed it up, gave to a friend - total cost about $40! It was in good nick too.

The other - a 1.2Ghz PB Alu model - worked OK, but wouldn't start up after being used for a while - probably PMU/motherboard fault which I could not diagnose.

With yours, I'd pull the RAM first, and see how you go running off a single stick. The top RAM slot often fails in these models. Try also a power manager and PMU reset.

Eeek :-/

I'd try Byrd's suggestions - also make sure you're using known-good RAM (that you've tested in other systems), and try both slots. Also consider trying an external display.

Failing that it looks like it could be a motherboard issue...perhaps the GPU considering the funky display pattern.
