Compu's Conquests

Nice! One of those things that run Windows CE. Interesting. About the only thing I've ever interacted with that had Windows CE was those inventory scanner things they had me use back when I used to work at Wal-Mart. :p

A guy I worked with had one of those many years ago to keep track of clients and stuff. On the road I would play solitaire on it. Smart phones killed them off.

At $55 this doesn't seem too bad. Probably not my best purchase, as it seems a little newer and a bit cheap.

What do you guys think?

the fluorescent VU meter is a dead giveaway it was from the early 80s.

So? It's just a TI-84.

So? It's just an ugly TI-84 with a bunch of crap strapped to the back of it.

OH! It's a TI-84 with a Raspberry Pi inside it!

It's exactly that. Just a proof of concept. I thought the TI-84 would be a good case choice. After cutting the plastic with a Dremel for a little while the garage stunk so bad of burning plastic I put on a mask while I finished the project. The buttons are useless, just for show instead of having blank holes in their place.

What's inside it?

A TI84 with a raspberry Pi on it?

Damn. I know these second gen (third gen?) TI 80-series can run 68K ROMs and emulate a Mac on it, but damn. Somebody is/was planning to do something with this!

The TI-84 is just the case. I stripped the motherboard and screen and replaced them with the Pi and an Adafruit 2.8" touch screen.

I have seen raspberri pi systems shoved in just about everything so far... Game boys, Virtual boy, etc... actually, starting to feel like old and busted haha.

Sorry that looks fugly, would hate to hold it as something would pop off.
That is the fault of every evil world conquerer. Well, that, and James Bond.

There are other Pi's, like the Banana Pi, and the Orange Pi. The Orange Pi comes in several form factors, and compatible to the Raspberry Pi's booting process (The Banana Pi is not 100%, you need to modify it a bit for it to work). And some boards can have a SATA Drive which is interesting within itself. It it just a matter of getting an Orange Pi of the right size and shape.

I'm not sure I see the point?

Though that tablet does look quite crammed full of stuff. Was that the point?

Thanks for mentioning the Orange Pi, Elfen. I wasn't really aware of the project. It's very intriguing given its range of specs. I'm presently looking at the Orange Pi plus. It has a 1.6GHz quad core A7 SoC, 1GB RAM, 8GB eMMC flash, Micro SD, SATA, Gigabit Ethernet and more. Pretty substantial specs for $40.

Found this at an estate sale for $50, they originally wanted $175. The big companies that run estate sales usually way overprice stuff. The price tag, and this being buried in the corner behind a bunch of other stuff turned people away for the 3 days they had the sale, so I went 30 minutes until closing on the last day and haggled it to $50. I plan to set it up with an Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB turntable and hopefully a decent tape deck. It will be paired with these speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Primus-Three-way-Floorstanding-Speaker/dp/B0046A8R3M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446257399&sr=8-1&keywords=infinity+primus

Compared to the 13" MacBook, this is a pretty hefty receiver.

Apparently a little haggling on eBay will net you this for $60 shipped. How it still boots even to the simasimac screen is beyond me. I guess that means it shouldn't be *too* hard to repair.

How do you clean this up anyway? Just soap and water like the rest of them?

And guess what fell out when I popped the cover off?
