Over the last day or two, I've picked up a couple compact Macs and related parts.
I got an SE, but its hard drive (one of my favourites: the Miniscribe 8225!) was dead
. It blew a capacitor, which I replaced, but it still wouldn't run the head stepper motor. I tested the HDA by swapping the PCB with an ATA version of the same drive, and the stepper motor worked properly, but the SCSI PCB still wouldn't run the ATA drive's HDA, so looks like a bad PCB, of which I have no extras. So, I was going to replace it with a 40MB Conner, but I found that the stupid mounting screws were different, so I gave up for the time being. I finally installed a replacement Miniscribe from the mess of parts from below, after rebuilding the 800k floppy drive, and after upgrading its RAM to 4MB, it works great.
A lot of SEs and a couple SE/30s were dropped off at the recycling center. Some had bad displays, or marred casing, or whatever, so I stripped the logic boards from four SEs and one SE/30, along with the drives from each. Two had the delightful Miniscribe drive, one was an aftermarket 80MB upgrade for one of the dual-floppy models, one was an aftermarket Seagate 38MB drive that fit in the Miniscribe's old tray, and the one from the SE/30 was a full-height 80MB Quantum.
A couple of the SEs had AUI/BNC ethernet cards, and one had a 25MHz 68030 accelerator, so I got those too.
I also took a nice SE/30. Unfortunately, the SE/30 board that I pulled (and I assume the one installed in the machine I grabbed) has leaky capacitors. So, it looks like I'll have to run them through the dishwasher before I put them in storage.
Also in the car are the monitor that matches the Apple IIc, and an old Apple IIe-type monitor. I may try to get a couple more SEs (one dual-floppy model and a Superdrive model), maybe the Plus, and if I have room in my storage unit, a couple iMacs. There's a ruby red one, some snow ones, a strawberry one, and there was a lime one the other day, which may be gone.
