Classic I / Classic II, No Internal Sound Mystery

i dug mine outta the trash and tore it open.

looks like the little wire right before it goes into the voice coil, cooked.. it looks black, to where the other wire does not.

otherwise the coil looks to be in pretty good shape.

 
That means the Speaker was getting DC. Which also means, the speaker amplifier is DC-Coupled to the audio output stage, and bad capacitors I guess could affect the DC Offset.

Need to measure the output connections and be sure there is no DC sitting there.

 
ah the speaker was getting constant dc voltage… i see. yeah i guess i should take my multimeter and see if there is an constant voltage going to it…

i am thinking now that the caps have been changed… it will probably be fine.

Probably so. Word of caution for non-recapped classic owners. If the caps are bad, you'll have DC on your speaker and itll smoke.
