As far as I'm aware, the CD drive cannot be opened by software unless there's a disc in the drive. The CD buttons on these systems can get hard to open if there's no shim between the button on the actual drive, and the button on the front of the case. Remove the front of the case as follows:
- take a flathead screwdriver, and put it in one of the slots underneath the front
- gently lever the screwdriver down, while pulling on the front panel. This should free that side of the front panel. Do this incredibly gently, as the front panels on these systems can go brittle and break with age
- repeat for the other side. The front panel swings upwards a bit and then comes straight off. You'll see where the button is on the CD drive. From the factory, the drive will have had a plastic shim glued to the button, but with age the glue can dry and the shim can get lost. You should be able to replace it with just about any other small piece of plastic. You don't want anything too big, just big enough to fit between the buttons. Glue it into place.
- put the front panel back onto the Mac. Reverse the steps that you took to remove the front panel, once again being very careful not to break the tabs.
Hope this helps, by the way one other thing - the 6360 is a PCI based PowerPC system, therefore threads on it should go into the PCI Power Mac & Performa forum under PowerPC Model Forums.
