Busy week for Conquests

I've been busy the past few weeks with some new items:

Boots to 9.1 but a bit noisy

No OS; Does not boot from CD properly; OS9 CD does not start and 10.4 CD kernal panics...suspect CD drive.

IBM Pentium Pro Server 315: Boots but everything else untested

Dell PIII Desktop with no OS

Compaq Presario: barely used, has Quantum Bigfoot installed, no OS

Compaq P1 with a newer motherboard (has USB), PSU is very tired sounding, no OS

Dell Laptop from ~2000. Have not booted it yet. Apparently has Ubantu on it.

The goal is to fix up and donate to people with disabilities who are in need of a computer. The iMac is ready, a G3 Tower is almost ready, and we are busy working on the G4...just need to install a new CD drive.

If you have some time on your hands and want to have some fun, try to put Windows 7 on the Pentium 1 (see here). I just put Windows 7 RC on my Pentium 2 today.

The goal is to fix up and donate to people with disabilities who are in need of a computer. The iMac is ready, a G3 Tower is almost ready, and we are busy working on the G4...just need to install a new CD drive.

Sometimes I wonder if it would be plausible to operate a business that did just this and readying similar computers for use by children. I think that my 8-33mhz Macs, which aren't worth a whole lot, could be quite useful if not an adventure in themselves to children, the disabled, or really anyone who can't afford a "normal" (recent) computer. That said, just imagine how useful the 33mhz-400mhz computers that are often worth even less than the Classic Macs (I'm thinking old wintel boxes as compared to an SE/30) could be. I think that if you had an external CD reader and had CDs with the OSs and then a batch of standard install educational/productivity tools you could move a lot of computers quickly by not having to spend time on each one.

It depends on the use that people want a computer for. No one needs more than a mac Plus speed if they want to do word processing. Email would work with something like an LC series and internet is more of a PPC unit. We are hoping to setup people based on their needs and I hope we can find one for everyone.

...and a bonus was a Xcaret Pro Hard Drive Expansion with 10 GB HD installed!

I have never seen one of these but they are a cool concept.

Everything works other than the batteries. I did have to remove the PRAM battery as expected when it would not boot initially.

All in all a great find!
