Best games/apps to showcase B&W mac?

Yes, MountImage is what you need. It is a DA, not a standalone application, so keep that in mind.

As for File Sharing, yes, AppleShare needs to be in there. Not 100% sure what the issue might be for you.

Alice ... for sure

Airborne!

Mouse Stampede

Lode Runner, I’m pretty sure

ChipWits

Most of the old Infocom games, which I’m partial to but aren’t exactly visually stunning :)

There was a 1984-vintage version of Frogger for the Mac, also

Chipwits had Mac 512k written on the box. I remember because I so wanted that game back then, but we were locked out of it by having a Mac Plus

I definitely had the original ChipWits running on a Mac 128k in 1984.  I know that because the sales guy threw it in with the Macintosh!  Maybe a later version needed a 512k?

Civilization and Vette!

They're the only two I can think of that nobody else mentioned. Though Civ may be slow on 68K. . .

Every other suggestion is sound. Personally I find the "Quest" games very poorly optimized on the Mac, barely playable but give it a go none-the-less.

Wasn't Syndicate B&W too? That would probably be a slideshow on 68K though (if it works at all).

The Mac Plus was all I had in that era, so I slogged happily through all the Quest games I could lay my hands on. I very infrequently saw them at other people's places on PCs so I wasn't too spoiled for my platform.

@tokyoracer  Civ's fine on 68k.  I run it on my IIci with no problems, even late game.
IIci is 25Mhz with cache (usually). Classic II is 16MHz and is crippled by other factors too.

That said, being as it's only rendering white and black, it probably wouldn't be too bad on it.

I don’t recommend games where the bitmaps originated elsewhere and were ported lazily to the Mac. Not good showcases.

Cosmic Osmo, The Manhole, and Spelunx and the Caves of Mr. Seudo all have superb 1-bit artwork. Cyan made their own halftone patterns, which blend smoothly into one another. I recreated these patterns in FullPaint for use in my own doodles.

Before he made the Dark Castle games, Mark Stephen Pierce did the handsome demo animation for VideoWorks and VideoWorks II.

Both Frankie’s Dungeon and Creepy Castle are lookers, though the latter has better interstitials. Its main title screen is just smashing.

Trici Venola’s character art for The Comic Strip Factory is juicy stuff. I wish she had made a game.

A lot of love went into the sprites for the black-and-white version of Battle Chess.

Arkanoid is an outstanding arcade conversion. It has fast action and flicker-free animation.

Hey Crutch, I don't mean to be a pest.  Any luck here?  I checked the garden, and it's still the zipped image files that I can't seem to get to mount.
Oh my mistake!  I misread an earlier post to think you were all set here.  I will do this by Thursday!

I tried to mess with it in SheepShaver (emulating System 7.5.3) and tried a variety of tools, didn't have any luck. It looks like the resource fork got lost in the shuffle maybe? I usually deal very well with .hqx, .dsk, .hfv and .sit

@sixsevenco done ... check download #2 on the StarWars page at the Garden.  I have no idea what that giant zip file is in download #1, among other things it's way too big.  I think it may just be corrupt.  Let me know if #2 works.

I used to play a driving simulation game on an SE/30. I think it was called Test Drive. Given the limitations of 1 bit monitors, the graphics were surprisingly good.
Microsoft had a flight simulator that I played on my Mac Plus. Same comment regarding graphics.

FA-18 Hornet 1 and 2 also work in the SE/30 I believe :)
