Battery leak?

The (dead) battery in my 190 seems to have leaked...there is something that looks like mold on the battery contacts. Is there any good way to clean the contacts on one of these old batteries?

Bought a PowerBook 190 some days ago and that's what I found:

Help xx(

My 5300 was in the same state when i get it.

Not an easy thing to get it right, try to dismantle the unit and clean the mess.

NiCd and NiMH electrolyte is alkaline, so an acid is good to neutralize it. I use plain white vinegar to clean up battery leaks, followed by a good scrub with warm soapy water and thorough drying.

I tried to clean as much as I could, some contacts were broken due to corrosion. I couldn't clean everything.

Also found a small amount of that blue stuff on a chip near the battery compartment, I didn't want to touch it to avoid damage. Leaving that there will damage the PowerBook?

Is there any way to cover the empty battery compartment?

I don't want to put the old battery that caused all the mess. It wouldn't make sense to buy a new battery because I wouldn't be able to use it since some contacts are broken.

Thanks for your help :)

I removed the battery pack from the original battery, leaving just the plastic empty enclosure.

That way i had an almost original Powerbook.

One of the my contacts were broken too.
