Battery Covers

First, these images are not mine (there, I feel better now) I am wondering if there was a rhyme or reason to these covers. Of the two original Macs I have, each has one. The oldest has the smaller icon near the top of the cover. The other is what I think I can call the more common one. These covers can easily get misplaced, replaced, etc. So I don't know if the ones on my Macs are original to the machines.

Wondering if the smaller icon without boarder was used on earlier Macs and if the one with boarder on later units. Or if its just a mixed bag. I know, silly question. But when it comes to getting an original Mac back to original as possible, it counts.

Yes one is older why it is beige and the other is platinum which should be newer.

Its not a color thing. Both of mine are beige and I have seen other Macs that are beige in color with the bordered style. But you raise a point. While I have seen the bordered one in either color, I don't recall seeing the other in platinum.

I would think they would have both come in both colours... here is why:

The 128K, 512K, 512Ke and the ED all had the squares around the icons near the ports, and the 512Ke and ED were both produced in beige or platinum (I think).

The little icon without the border is the one that belongs with the Plus and the Plus ED and those were also produced both in beige and platinum.

Okay, that makes sense that it would match the port icon design of the case. I did some digging in my parts bin last night. I found a few more battery covers and I did find one without border in platinum. I guess I never noticed since my collection never had Classics or more than a couple Pluses. That was then though, I will probably hunt some down now.
