B&W keeps going into OF when trying to load OS X

Got a B&W with Sonnet 400mhz zif cpu. It would not load any system. Found that if any ram stick was inserted in a partiular slot, it would not boot.

With that slot empty, the computer installed 0S9 with no problem. Then tried installing OSX and it keeps jumping into Open Firmware. Tried Zapping the PRAM but nothing

Any ideas?

Edit: Used XPostFacto 4 Have Firewire, usb and ATTO SCSI cards installed.

XPF is your problem. There should be an option to boot into OF. Make sure that checkbox is unchecked.

Why were you using XPF when that Mac supports OS X through 10.4 natively?

Peace,

Drew

Does that Mac have a red Cuda button? Pressing that seemed to help reset it when my Beigey was booting into the OF prompt when I was trying to get OS X onto it. Removing the battery for a few minutes also has a similar effect. I think there's also a way to "reset the logic board" should that level of resetting not to do it, which is usually detailed in the service manual. But yes, you shouldn't be using XPF as it's not designed to work on B&Ws so will only cause problems, and you don't need it.

Tried loading OSX 10.1 and it loaded properly. Then loaded 10.2 upgrade

and it loaded properly. 10.3 starts to load and stops at a light blue screen

with the arrow cursor. No XPF was used.

There are buttons on the front and on the board. There were pushed.

The same disks loaded onto a G3 AIO with XPF.

I've had two beige G3 motherboards go into this state, coming up with "Claim failed" and similar OF errors; after successfully running OS X 10.2 previously, they've lost the ability to even re-install it. Yes, I used XPF on the first one, then transferred the hard drive to the new one.

Would re-using XPF and un-checking that box revive them?

10.2 does funky things with firmware IIRC... if it's a G4 upgrade you have to run an updater on the B&W
