Apple IIc french keyboard layout

I’ve recently got the french version of Apple IIc. It may sound stupid yet I can’t find the # character on my keyboard. Of course it‘s possible to switch to the US QWERTY by pressing down the keyboard change key. I’m just curious if Apple buyers from France had to do the same keyboard switching each time when they wanted to type the # sign.

You need to use the pound sign (£) wherever you're supposed to type a #. So for instance:
IN#2
becomes
IN£2

Eventually, it becomes second nature :)
