Apple Desktop Mouse II - Slow Tracking

Iesca

6502
I recently acquired an Apple Desktop Mouse II to use with my Powerbook 540c. While the tracking speed with the built-in track pad is fine, the tracking speed with the mouse, even at the highest setting, is painfully slow. I've opened up and cleaned out the mouse innards as best I can and wiped down the mouse ball with rubbing alcohol with little effect.

Any advice?

There's a little utility called ADB Reset or something like that.   You might try that.   I have a Kensington (?) Mouse in a Box and sometimes (especially when Blizzard games launch) the mouse speed goes through the roof.   An ADB bus reset brings it back in line.

I don't know if this will solve your problem, especially given the track pad working okay, but it's worth a try.

Also, I tried the PRAM reset and it did not resolve the issue, unfortunately. My fear is that it's a mechanical issue.

Clean the internal wheels with water, I think they are dirty, usually I remove all the wheels and I clean them under water while scraping grime with nails

You do plug in the mouse before starting up the PowerBook, right?

If you plug ADB devices in while a machine is running you will end up with a slow mouse (and might damage your ADB controller as well)
