Will go rather nicely in the Quadra 700 :)

So I heard from the seller, it got shipped out yesterday, yipee. :) Now if only I had a Quadra here to install it in! (I'm at uni, my Quadra, and all my other computers apart from the Dell and the MacBook are at home)

Not to *TRY* to make anyone here jealous or anything...

But I have an 8•24GC plus an 8•24 in my IIfx. (The 8•24GC has the extra benefit that it will accelerate all 8•24 and 4•8 cards in the system, in addition to itself.) Now I just need to get my IIfx up to snuff. It only has 4 MB RAM, and I don't have a proper terminator, so I can't have an internal hard drive that works properly.

Yeah, I've read that about the 8*24GC, thats a card I wouldn't mind tracking down one day...but still, its nice to finally have a NuBus card to put into one of the NuBus slots on my Q700, and it'll be nice to be able to get 24 bit colour on it without having to hunt down some more VRAM SIMMs.

I wish I could get a hold of a 8•24GC card. It would be awesome in my Quadra 840av. I don't think the Quadra 840av has accelerated Video. oh well...

Too bad I don't have the $$ for one, mainly because i just got paid and the money went like that *snaps fingers* because of bills piling up. oh well...

The 8.24QC is only good for an 030 based machine (Mac II), anything built into a Quadra is probably better or atleast more compatible. I recommend the common but fast Supermac Thunder/24's for anyone who wants high resolution and acceleration in a 68040 equipped Nubus mac. One of these days I will get my hands on a 8.24GC, one of the few nubus cards I want yet do not have. The video on the 840av is pretty decent, better off with some extra VRAM for more color depth (which is what I did).

There are some early nubus cards that accelerate older non accelerated video cards but they are harder to find then an accelerated video card. I have a couple made by rasterops and they work well with rasterops video cards (card looks like it has a pair of DSP chips with extra RAM).

Still it is very nice to have a boxed nubus card with the manuals and original install drivers, if you have issues the hard to find documentation will be very helpfull. If you get bored maybe PDF the docs for those who don't have a copy.

LowEndMac did a comparison a few years ago, and found that a Quadra 650 with built-in video benchmarks faster than a IIfx with an 8•24GC. The 68040 by itself is fast enough that an unaccelerated 8•24 in the Quadra 650 is faster than an accelerated 8•24GC in a IIfx. And the Quadra's built-in video is even faster still.

Well it came today, i just have to hold back from opening the box until I can get some new batteries for my camera and snap some pics. :)
