Anyone here rebuilding PB 1400 batteries 'for hire?'

I'm interested in having just one PB 1400 battery that has decent runtime. Both of my aftermarket BTIs (from Wegener) are now fairly shot. Anyone here doing battery rebuilds for a fee? Or, anyone know of an online service that did a good job with a 1400 re-cell?

Nobody? I see where to order the Sanyo HR-4/3AU cells from...they are still available. My soldering skills aren't great, but if they have tabs on the batteries, maybe I could attempt this. Certainly cheaper than a "new" battery...

Soldering tabs onto batteries is difficult. If you have a Batteries Plus near you they have (or did have) a service of soldering tabs onto batteries. I don't know if they'll let you bring your own batteries or if you must purchase theirs.

I have successfully rebuilt a 1400 battery! Granted, there are some practicality issues with my design: the top cover of the batt (which is only cosmetic - it's the bottom cover that has the latch and faceplate) can't fit. However, it works great: It powers the 1400 just fine - even the battery meter is accurate (and it's lighter too!) Here's a pic:

The soldering was difficult and frustrating - but it was my first time. I have plans for better designs that should allow for the upper cover to fit. I use 4/3A size cells with a rated supply of 3800 mAh.

So, down to business, as I am interested in offering this as a service. I would charge about $40 for parts and about $35 for labor. You (pay) ship me the dead battery (I do need a dead battery, for the parts), and I ship it back to you (USPS Small Flat Rate Box both ways). Should take about a week, factoring in shipping times here.
