Adtron SCSI Compact Flash drive?

I asked the seller to keep an eye out for them but it's a buy that came up and was unsure if they would come up again. I also asked him to keep an eye out for 3.5" versions.

Considering how unusual it is, it seems unlikely any would surface from the same source, unless someone trips over another box of them somewhere.

yall got em cheap. considering there was only 1 left I paid the BIN amount. lol. But I digress...

This thing will definitely be fun to play with once it comes in the mail. The only CF card I have is 4GB and it didnt work in my SCSI2CF adapter that I tried to make.

But I think I have a 1GB roku BOSE demo CF card laying around somewhere.

Going to have to turn it into 2gb chunks or less when partitioning at a minimum just for the system to use it with disk tools.

But earlier people mentioned a 2 gb limit to the card so that may be an issue. I have an old 128 CF card for an old Kodak camera I think somewhere I am going to use.

Ok just got my card with 2 connectors. First its missing its mounting assembly. Found out here http://www.electronicproducts.com/Board_Level_Products/Drop-in_flash_drive_replaces_HDD_tape.aspx it was a drop in replacement. Have not found a manual yet but its something with info.

Problem one is that disk tools does not see it at all. I have Hard disk toolkit, I might try that but so far not seen. The jumper that says TD I hope would be for a HD light but without a manual I have no idea.

Problem 2 is there is a JP3 on one side that lists 5V, TXD, RXD, and GND. So knowing it had mounting hardware we may be screwed. I have an old hard drive that I will dremel and mount this to it so it will "screw on" to the correct bracket. As it stand my heart is sinking just a bit.

Well that page says capacities are 128 mb to 1.2 gb, so I will wait until my CF cards I ordered cheap come in. All I have is a 32 mb and an 8 mb. Maybe a issue there but I may fuss with it a little.

Look at the 8th post in THIS thread. I posted specifics in the attached PDF. TD is Terminate Disable, not a hard drive light ;) . It's also a 2.5" drive so it's not a direct plug into a 50 pin SCSI cable. See the doc before you do some damage :)

Did you try something like SCSI Probe to see if the SCSI bus at least sees it?

Also, being a 2.5" drive, I'd think you'd have to use a PowerBook interface or something like that to provide it with power, etc... A standard 50 pin cable by itself would be no good since it provides no power.

I put it in a powerbook 540C, the data sheet says it doesn't need 12V power, just the 5V but I didn't even check that yet. Scsi probe is not on a disk tools disk but I tried drive setup and it said nothing there. That's why I said I would try HD toolkit. Also datasheet doesn't say if one or both CF slots need filled or by same size cards so that's a question.

I am just throwing out questions as I just am so excited and still sick :)

How can the powerbook cable provide no power if its a drop in solution replacement? I may be misinterpreting that but I should not need an extra power cable for this.

No problem. I'm just pinning my hopes on ya ;) Unfortunately, I don't know Mac laptop drives so I'm sitting on the sidelines for this one.

You have no other drives to conflict? Did you fill slot P1 or whatever it is?

I have 2 slots P1 and P2 I only tried slot P1, and I am gonna fill P2 and try again. I think since no apple driver found this will be a hard disk toolkit or any other third party hard drive driver deal. Its the same reason they came up with hard disk toolkit and such. Drivers for drives that were not apple.

I am taking my dead 2.5 drive, cutting the hard drive and arm spindles to make room for the card as it has screw locations and slots ( I suspect they bought up already made scsi drive PCB's for this). If the spindles didn't stick out it would drop on and screw right on.

Ok hard disk toolkit see adtron with no capacity, I erased the cf cards before I put them in so not sure. Again they may need to be matched pairs for me.

It says device not ready. I am booting from external CDrom with toolkit and it sees both IDs. I even booted off 7.6.1 and just used crises tool no difference. Kept saying check device. Not ready. Since there are no jumpers I will wait until the other CF cards get here.

I even tried auto format and still says check device, device not ready.
