A pair of LC's......

I got an LC 475 and an LCIII along with a Stylewriter II and two color monitors. Can't get any video from the 475 but the other one works great :)

Put a fresh PRAM battery in the LC 475, it nearly always does the trick. The fast power cycle thing does get them going sometimes but not always in my experience.

What models are the monitors?

Normally I hate when people say what I'm about to say, but...

... isn't it interesting how these 15-year old Macs, which were pretty much bottom-of-the-line even when they were current models, last forever and almost never break? I mean, really, I've had at least 20 LC-series machines come through my house over the years, and aside from a few dead PRAM batteries and one dead hard drive, I've never had a single problem with any of them.

Even old Color Classics and AIO LCs seem to last much longer than, say, iMac G3s.

Thoughts?

Try leaving it on for an hour or so, then doing the quick off-on routine. By on I mean attempt to boot, and leave it running like that. I think this will only work if there is a battery in place, even if it is flat.

Going forward from now, capacitor plague will start claiming most of the old LCs. Almost every LC board I see (pizza box or AIO) has at least started to leak capacitor fluid.

I also deal in a lot of iMac G3s. Most common problem seems to be the hard drive. I have one here where some kids literally bored out the two USB ports so now you can't plug in anything USB; the motherboard is basically ruined, unless I can somehow fashion on new USB ports.

Do LC's require VRAM sticks or is the video memory all onboard? I can't see video starting up if there is no memory present.

Not to hijack the thread, but...Mice Richardson: Cheap USB hub?
Both USB ports of the iMac are bored out. There are no USB ports left.

I had an iMac once that just had one port bored out. A USB hub would have worked there.

Why would anyone remove the USB ports?

No, I mean remove the USB ports from the USB hub and replace the ports on the iMac with the ports from the hub. Or even just one USB port on the iMac and use an additional hub.

The LCIII has 512k onboard, and a slot that can take another 256k of VRAM. None of the others do, however, and require VRAM SIMMs. Note that on an LC475 or 575, both slots must be populated.

I miss my old LC475. I really liked the form factor.

The old LC475 (I upped the CPU in mine to a full '040 and maxed the RAM, then in a fit of stupidity - sold it), was an awesome machine. I used it as my primary machine for close to a year. This was about 4 or 5 years ago, so even in this modern age it was useful. Heck I was darn productive on the little guy. He sure kept surprising me with what he could run, what I could hook up to him, and that he liked working with my home network.

That being said, I really want a 660AV or almost any machine that has the same form factor. I really, really like that form factor. Without sounding all hippy-ish; it speaks to me, man.

Nice. I really like the LCs. When I got my 475 it had the same problem. A new pram battery did the trick.
