Back in August, I picked up a few freebies from Anthony (AnalogKid) but right before I took off on vacation and never posted! I was very glad to help him free some space and get some machines I've wanted for a long time!
#1. An LC 575.
Pristine! It came with 20MB of RAM and a 320MB hard drive. Unfortunately the first time I tried to use the floppy drive, it wasn't working, but fortunately I had a spare I pulled from a very beat-up Quadra 630. That same machine also gave up a full '040 so I have a very happy LC! I've been using it to play Myst and listen to audio CDs mostly, but that'll change after I get some other games installed. Future plans include finding a bigger hard drive and faster CD-ROM drive. It's running System 7.6.1 at the moment, although it might see OS 8 at some point.
#2. An LC III and a Macintosh Color Display.
I've wanted one of these forever, even though I already have a 475. 36MB of RAM and a 160MB hard drive. It's clean at the moment, only running System 7.1.1 Pro and After Dark Classic. I think I may have installed ClarisWorks but I'm not sure. The hard drive has this very high-pitched noise that sounds like something out of Space Invaders when it's spinning up, so I have a feeling it won't last if I'm leaving it on day after day. The monitor has a very crisp and bright picture, but it is very yellowed. I'm planning to tackle it with Retrobrite at some juncture. Future plans for this guy only involve an ethernet card. It will inherit the hard drive from the 575 as soon as I've replaced it.
As for some other items of interest, a friend of mine sent me a dead iBook G3, the 800Mhz model. It was meant to be a donor machine for my own 600Mhz iBook, as its plastics had seen better days. The dead 'Book gave up: plastics and the LCD assembly (rather than take my original display assembly apart), a faster and quieter combo drive, a 30GB hard drive (which I may replace again as it's a bit noisy) along with a keyboard and a like-new battery! It only took a few hours to rebuild and I've been using it ever since, it looks as good as it did the day it arrived from Apple. Running OS X 10.4.11 for now, haven't got around to installing OS 9. Downside of using OS 9 is that my wi-fi network is inaccessible since I use WPA security. I'll find a work-around for this later on.
The same friend who sent me the dead G3 also sent me one of the original white Apple Pro Keyboards, which gave up its keycaps for this little project:

Yeah, it has been done before, but I thought it was a great use of a dead keyboard, if you had one around.
So yeah, that's it for me. Back to the iBook!
