800k floppy drive help!!!!

I  pulled out my 512kE, after about 5 or 6 months since I last used it, flip the switch, plop in the floppy, and I hear a motor continually running, and get the "Can't Find Startup" screen….

I shut down, poked the disk out, flipped the switch again,  and the same happens….

How do I fix this, or who do I send it to to be repaired?

I also have a M0131 that does nothing that does nothing that needs to be repaired….

Well….  It spins the disk for a second, then does nothing…..

So…. What do I do?  Where do I go?  Who do I send to?

I've used this for the last 20 years without a problem...

…And the Donkeys on eBay are asking over $100 for a working 800k, yet, they list it as "untested", and "as is"….

My first step would be to give the drive a tune-up by blowing all the dust out, cleaning the heads with alcohol, and lubricating it according to the guide on the wiki. While you have it apart, give it a close visual inspection for any obvious damage.

A motor continually running is the sign that the eject motor plastic gear is worn or broken.

Not much to do, you will have to replace it or have it repaired.

Someone used to sell new ones here.

I've used this for the last 20 years without a problem...
Nothing works for a lifetime without a problem.

I thought about this again….

Has anyone had any experience with these "3D printed" gears?

Are they strong?

Do they last long?

Are there problems?

Do they react (Disintegrate) with oil and or grease?

Etc., etc., etc.

I have experience with 3D printed materials. It depends what you get it ordered in. Abs would probably be the best for this situation, but you can even get it printed in gold or ceramic!!

Check out shapeways material charts.

I'll assume…...

You haven't read the thread...

I don't think I have an option of ordering ABS, but i'd be "getting" what he already printed….

My question remains...
