Hello; this is an odd way to seek out a ‘pen friend’, but here goes…
I bought three PowerBooks from three eBay sellers in the USA - two 520c and one 540c. I live in New Zealand, so I had the packages sent to the NZPost freight forwarding facility in Portland, OR.
They won’t ship them to me unless they remove the batteries, which they have kindly offered to discard if I sign a waiver since “we cannot guarantee that any part will be damaged during the battery removal”. Isn’t it lovely when people care?
There are about six batteries (one PowerBook comes with four, I’m not sure about the other two) and I’m not too keen to have them thrown away considering that I was planning to re-cell them.
I wonder if anyone here would be game enough to open the batteries and remove the cells for me, please, then send the casings and circuit boards to me (I’d make payment via PayPal). Ideally someone who can actually test the batteries, since I don’t know if any might be functional. If they are, then you can keep them (only take apart the dead ones for sending to me). I have a 1994 Compaq Contura Aero with an original NiMH battery that’s still working, so stranger things have happened
If you happen to need a dead battery or two for recelling yourself, that’s ideal too (I only need three).
Thank you and if you have any better ideas, such as a source for new batteries, I’m happy to consider anything at this point.
Cheers
