1st Gen iMac mods

Are there any more mods that can be done besides these.?

Install 333mhz cpu in slower imacs.

More ram

Install vram chip from G3 to increase video ram.

Install a floppy drive!

Install a serial port!

Do the VGA hack to use an external display!

Those are real hacks, though, and require some reworking with solder (well, the VGA hack might not, but whatever). The ones you mention aren't really hacks (though installing a 333 MHz G3 isn't exactly a supported upgrade) but are definitely good aftermarket upgrades to perform. RAM and VRAM are user-serviceable parts, so that should be pretty easy to do.

Peace,

Drew

Is the VRAM upgrade rare? I've got one spare (that is, I split my iMac to bits and probably won't ever get round to reassembling it)... Also got motherboard and basically everything else if anyone's interested..

Not exactly, you can find one in any Rev. B or C Beige G3, or any Rev. B, C or D iMac. You may also have come across them on Rage II or Rage Pro based PCI or AGP video cards, even those that are PC only.

haha, i've got a 2MB vram upgrade takeen from a iMac G3266 computer, worked in my G3 266 Biege DT computer as well. used to paly diablo2 on that thing with the 2MB upgrade it allowed me to use hte perspective mode =D

The 333Mhz CPU can be overclocked to 400Mhz with no issues. If you're running OS X on such a Mac, every little bit helps :)

Yeah, there is an ADB hack, but IIRC, isn't it quite difficult, considering that you also have to install some SMT resistors that Apple left off the board in production models?

I think the most common hack, back in the day was the one where you installed a SuperDrive.
