12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

Is anyone using a 12" PC Compatibility Card (the 100MHz Pentium one) in a Beige G3 successfully? If so, what combination of Mac OS and PCsetup software are you using?

The gestalt id isn’t a necessary step, i just have severe data corruption issues running this card in a Beige
Have you overclocked the PCI bus or anything? Could it be a cache issue? Try turning off speculative addressing off (PowerLogix processor upgrade software should do it). It should also let you disable the cache possibly.

Not sure what else might be easy to test that is weird about the beige G3 :)

I’ve tried everything obvious. Gone back to a bare bones stock system with original CPU and clocks and clean install of Mac OS 8.1 + v1.6.4 drivers. Also tried a different Beige G3 motherboard and an ATX PSU. Tried all three different ROM versions.

Previous to this I’d tried Mac OS 9.2.2/9.0.4 with v2.1.7 drivers.

I have two cards (on loan from @Durosity) with exactly the same problem which points me away from a hardware issue with the cards themselves. I recapped one of them (just in case) but it made no difference.

From what I can gather people have used these cards in Beige G3 and newer systems with success so I am thinking that it must be something wrong with my software/OS setup. That’s why it would be good to hear from someone with such a setup in working order.

Unfortunately I don’t have any 603/604-based PCI Power Macintoshes to try these in. I might try on a B&W G3 logic board next.

People do seem to struggle to get them running in Mac OS 8 and later. Silly question - what about hacking 7.6.1 onto it with the modified CHRP version?

Oh God!
I mean yes I’d love one but also no!
I don’t have room! And it’ll end up being a whole new ecosystem to maintain
Please don’t 😂
Do you have a 5400 board? You could rig it up outside the case. Especially if you have the GIMO video out adapter for the 5400 so you don't need to use the edge connector for video.

Okay, I'd read about it during a cursory search, but I suspect that information was out of date.

Do it! Fall down the rabbit hole! It's lovely down here, you'll like it.
