10" CRT in SE/30 - Neck board offset PCB?

I've started adapting my extra SE/30 case to this Color CRT, but I can't quite get the neck board assembly within the confines of the planned case extension.

From the looks of the grayscale board PCBs, it looks like it should be easy enough to desolder the connector for installation on a PCB that will offset the remainder of the board, squeezing the assembly down so as to fit within available cubic.

Are there any drawbacks to this approach I'm not seeing?

The 128k used a CRT socket with wires coming out the sides rather than a neck PCB. So in principle I guess it's possible to move most of the neck electronics somewhere else, if kept well away from other sensitive parts of the circuit.

On the other hand, it might be easier just to cut a hole in the back bucket to let the neck extend a bit further. Nobody would see the difference from the front.

I thought the color CRT was MUCH longer and would not fit. Its that close?

But yeah, what APM said about the 128k style. Its so compact the glass "nipple" of that CRT at the center actually stick through. So you could them desolder the socket from that sub-board and then solder the wires form the 128k-type to the board.

Camouflage for that extension of the neck out the back of the bucket is the point of this hack. I've got a case extension project in progress that belongs on the backside of the Bucket.  But I still can't quite get this blasted neck board to fit, it just extends too far above the nipple.

If I fab an offset board for the ceramic cap interface, I can squeeze it all in. It will even bring one of the wiring harnesses back within reach.  If there are sensitive parts that are too close together, can I just put grounded sheet metal shielding in between?

The neck board will be turned 180 degrees and fit below and a bit to the rear of the nipple/ceramic socket. I could also make my board interconnection on the backside of the Neck Board to bring it in tighter to the "missing" rear of the bucket.

Gotta get the QS'02 up and running to illustrate this.

I've been playing this a bit more in terms of fitment and it's looking really good. ATM I'm fabbing a clear plexi/MDF prototyping enclosure for face down or upright front bezel/chassis playtime. [:)] ]'>

Not yet, need to work out the mounts for the CRT so I can stand it upright first. Also need to complete the clear plexi bucket/case extension. It'll get its own thread when I get to the point for a decent workup. This one's just a technical feasibility check. With any luck I won't have murdered the monitor by that point. ::)
