Help me find a realistic solution to my problem

So... MacIPgw or A2Server and transferring stuff over appleshare is the only way to go now?

Macintosh IIcx + PowerCD 600e = are they compatible?

I used to use a 2x with my Plus with no issues. I think the driver automatically downshifts if it gets read errors.

USB CDROM Tie-in with AppleCD API?

I believe the AppleCD driver contains a check to look for known devices. Would USB devices work if this check was NOP'd? I don't know for sure, as the lack of USB support may be enough to still prevent this from working. You may need a shim to trick the OS into thinking that the USB device is...

Help me find a realistic solution to my problem

You're going to have problems with option 4 -- netatalk (both versions 2 and 4) is very persnickety about how it stores data to be represented with data/resource/meta over AppleShare. And you've already discovered that the Unix filesharing isn't an option -- it's a hack to allow the guest OS to...

Geethree G4+ “Stealth Serial Port” PCI slot bracket

Yup; Core Audio got a rework in Panther (10.3). Before that the latency was really annoying for DAW work, which is how the MacOS9Lives! website came to exist -- because a lot of audio professionals stayed on OS 9, even after Jobs performed its funeral. Personally, I still found the audio stack...

    Macintosh CRT and pico-mac

Nice job! I have to say, that is... jarring for me, seeing a Classic case but the screen displaying an OS the Classic could never run. And seeing the ribbon cable through the floppy slot.... This is definitely a step further along from a Pi 3 running Basilisk II in a Classic shell....

Dual booting OS9 and OSX on eMac but I'm a Winbaby

The trick for dual boot is to install OS 9 first and make sure the boot driver partition is created. After that, you create a second partition using Drive Setup, and then install OS X onto that. You could even create three partitions, so you can install 10.4 on one and 10.5 on another. The...

    Exo68k/ExoPPC

The alternative is to use https://infinitemac.org/ of course, but then you need to know what runs best on what. Or you can go the route I went, and keep a collection of "apps" that each launch the emulated OS configuration and software title you want to run on a modern machine. So if I want to...

What’s the best way to archive old Apple install discs?

Not really; just a long and rambling thread on MG plus a bunch of reference documents in various places for the various file formats, software packages, and optical media formats.

For those of you with two... with the new CHRP hacks, you could set up one of these multi-booting System 7.0 through 10.2!

    Hard Time seeing SE/30 Display

Would something like https://wiki.preterhuman.net/List_of_expansion_cards_for_Macintosh#030_PDS help? It doesn't directly answer the question, but it could potentially solve the underlying issue. Another option is one of those magnifying lenses people used to use with their compact Macs -- you'd...

What’s the best way to archive old Apple install discs?

I should comment here that the Disk Utility in 10.4 and 10.6 generally don't have issues; the issues really started with 10.7, and accelerated with 10.12. Disk Utility in 10.4 and 10.6 will generally make an ISO-compliant binary image of the track data and then append DMG footer data. This...

What’s the best way to archive old Apple install discs?

Any Mac that has Disk Utility also has DD. If DD by itself is too complicated to use, https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/dumptoiso-a-script-os-x-dump-cds-and-dvds-iso-files is your friend. It works on all versions of OS X and macOS to date, and likely also works on most flavours of Linux and BSD...

What’s the best way to archive old Apple install discs?

It's surprising how many people contact me saying "I'm trying to install [Mac OS] on this [Mac / emulator] and it won't work" and the problem turns out to be that their disc image is mangled due to imaging it using the most convenient method (usually Toast or Disk Utility, but other tools show...

What’s the best way to archive old Apple install discs?

imgburn on Windows and dd on non-Windows is the best for optical media. Toast overwrites the disc header data with its own info, so you end up with a possibly functional but modified image. I'm not sure there's a reliable way to make a clean image of optical media in classic Mac OS.

    Apple A/UX 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.1 and WGS95 1.0 (A/UX 3.0.1) and WGS95 1.1 (A/UX3.1) Image Files

So was running System 7.0 on a G4 Mini, but it happened. There may be timing issues, but it looks like the proper environment can be fully defined in the ROM, and everything run through the 68040 emulator. This of course means running A/UX 2.x and lower would likely be totally impossible...

    Apple A/UX 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.1 and WGS95 1.0 (A/UX 3.0.1) and WGS95 1.1 (A/UX3.1) Image Files

Based on our recent success running System 7.0 on New World Macs, I've been wondering if it's technically possible to tweak the ROM so that A/UX 3.x will also run on New World Macs. Haven't had any time to dedicate to investigating this yet though.

Looking for the document "Macintosh Worldwide Development: Guide to System Software"

The Developer CD series is on MG, but that starts in 1991 with Phil & Dave's Excellent CD. It pretty much coincides with the publication of Inside Macintosh Vol VI. Although... has anyone checked to see if there's a copy of the Guide to System Software on that CD? I don't have mine handy, but...
