    MacIPRpi beta release 6.02

I just enabled the VNC service via "RPi Menu/Prefences/Raspberry Pi Configuration". I then used Real VNC on my Mac to connect, but still can't launch Chromium via the menu bar Web browser icon or "RPi Menu/Internet/Chromium Web Browser". Just tried it from the command line and got...

    MacIPRpi beta release 6.02

So, I have it up and running on a spare RPi 4, connected to file sharing okay, but haven't done much else testing yet. One thing I noticed it I can't get Chromium to launch from the desktop, Firefox works though. I have my current MacIPRpi 5 Pi configured as a CUPS print server for my AppleTalk...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

I think these Norton System Info v5 Benchmarks are pretty interesting: All tests done in a Performa 6360/160 chassis (including with the 6500/225 board), same 64MB EDO DIMM installed on the logic boards and booted from the same Mac OS 8.6 install on a 160GB PATA HD. My takeaways: Going from...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

Finally got the time to work on this with a Performa 6360/160. Did the 50MHz clock crystal oscillator swap, and the bus speed memory timing resistor changes. Thought I'd give it a go leaving the CPU multiplier unchanged at 4x, meaning overclocking the CPU to 200MHz, it chimed but perhaps...

Help me identify this SE/30 card

With one of these you should be able to connect to a modern Ethernet switch: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167112368388 Not sure what drivers you’ll need as I don’t recognize the manufacturer, bet someone else here will!

raging curiosity with PSX/powermac 6400 memory (and struggle with tracking down DIMMs)

Thought to look at what my Umax SuperMac c500 has on its logic board as I remembered it is based on Apple's Alchemy (6360/5400/6400) design and has 16MB on-board but it uses the more typical 28 pin RAM ICs.

raging curiosity with PSX/powermac 6400 memory (and struggle with tracking down DIMMs)

Does anyone know if RAM chips with memory density higher then 2MB were made in the "form factor" that would work with the 6500's four unused on-board memory pads? These somewhat larger than typical RAM IC have 42 pins, you can find DIMMs on eBay that look like they would fit but they all seem...

The last of the "subnotebook collection"

My PB100 had those same symptoms, logic board recap got it booting but then needed to recap the display to actually see something.

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

Sure thing. Yeah, @obsolete mentions this in their first post, switching the resistor config from x5 to x4 to not overclock the onboard 603ev on their 5400/200. On my 6360/160 I think I'll change it to x3.5, 175MHz, as 200MHz seem like it might be pushing it too far but I like the idea of...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

My crystals arrived, ordered off eBay. Doing the trick @obsolete described as I could only find through-hole 50MHz crystals, I ordered some SMD 48MHz to cannibalize. Links below. Progression of stealing the plastic base from a SMD 48MHz crystal on the top and adding it to a through-hole 50MHz...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

This is really cool! I'm thinking about trying this on my Performa 6360/160 and/or a 6400/? logic board I need to test... I think I get the resistor changes, restating: Remove the R95 2k Ohm resistor, marked "202" and add a 10k Ohm resistor, marked "103" to R94. (Neat SMD resistor...

    Quadra 840AV speaker connector

I think what you are looking for is 2695 connector series terminals, described here but probably available through Mouser, etc: https://www.hoohawirecable.com/product/en/Product-molex-KK-2695-series-connector-custom-wire-harness-assembly.html This doc on the plastic part...

Anyone here use a PowerBook 150 with a CompactFlash card?

Yeah, mine is the combination of the best parts from two PB 150s… and reinforcing JB Weld epoxy around the standoffs…

Anyone here use a PowerBook 150 with a CompactFlash card?

Interesting, I never tried that since was able to find a CF card that the 150 format utility, "Internal HD Format", was able to work with: Transcend CompactFlash ULTRA 2GB Industrial I had first tried with 512MB SanDisk and 1GB Kingston neither of which would work with the utility although I...

    Restoration CD for market software

I think these restore images are pretty cool. What did your retro Mac actually come from the factory with vs. the Legacy Restore CD that can just give you the base OS for your retro Mac? While perhaps less interesting then the "Restoration CD for Market Software Series", which I think is all...

    Internal BlueSCSI and Wallstreet

So I need to make a correction, the Ableconn mSata to IDE adapter does work in a Lombard! My mistake was not double checking the jumper, like many other Macs of this generation IDE hard disks need to be set to Master, which for this adapter is nothing connected/no jumpers on either 45-46 or...

    Internal BlueSCSI and Wallstreet

Yeah, In my test above I clicked "Ignore" after inserting a blank CD-R into my USB attached Apple Super Drive before running that command in the Terminal app to burn the .toast file to CD. I think the "hdiutil" command line utility must look for an unmounted burnable CD in an attached CD-R/W...
