Quadra 840AV speaker connector

The contacts inside the internal speaker of my Quadra 840AV connector are broken. Does anyone know what replacements I need? Also, do I need to buy a crimp tool?

Also, does it matter which speaker cable goes in which hole of the header?

Your image isn't loading.

I think the + and – of the speaker connector are interchangeable.

Similar to you, I need to repair the crimp connectors of the LED connector on my 840AV. I was trying to clean the corrosion off but it fell apart.

I googled "does speaker polarity matter?"

It said:

Yes, speaker polarity matters for the best sound quality:

Sound quality
When speaker polarity is incorrect, the sound quality can be affected. For example, if one speaker is wired incorrectly, it will be "out of phase" with the other speaker. This means that one speaker will move forward while the other moves backward, which can result in poor stereo separation and sound quality.

Signal cuts out
If the positive and negative speaker wires are mixed up, the signal will cut out. This is because one wave is positive and the other is negative, which results in silence.

Timing and coherence
The direction of the cable can affect timing and coherence. When the cable is connected in the correct direction, the sound will be more articulate and involving.

However, incorrect speaker polarity will not damage your amplifier or speakers. This is because the voltages received from a speaker with reverse polarity are no different than the speaker in correct polarity.

You can test the polarity of a speaker by using a small amount of voltage, such as a used double A battery. Touch the wires on the battery terminals to the speaker, one on the negative and the other on the positive. If the speaker pushes out when the polarity is correct, and pulls in when the polarity is wrong, then the polarity is correct.

Polarity does not matter in this case, where you only have one speaker. You can wire it up whichever way you like and the end result will be the same: it does not matter much whether the speaker wibbles outwards first or inwards first.

It matters if and only if you have more than one speaker, which is where the google results come in: it's not so much that you have to wire them up the "right" way around but you have to wire them up consistently. But in the case of a mac case speaker, where you've only got one speaker, it really doesn't matter.

I think @Fizzbinn is correct about which connector you want. For hobby use, it's worth bearing in mind that there are considerably cheaper "clone" connectors for most common molex parts available, and if you're not plugging them and unplugging them all the time, and if you're not worried about high reproducibility over thousands of parts, you may as well get the cheaper ones off eBay. I always do.

I think what you are looking for is 2695 connector series terminals, described here but probably available through Mouser, etc:

This doc on the plastic part:

References these for the terminal:
That seems indeed the connector! Thanks! I'll try to see if I can get aftermarket ones. I'm going to try to crimp them using a pair of pliers, otherwise I'll have to get a crimping tool.
