This is my 3rd attempt to post here. Damn it, every time I do this damn PC Crashes! GRRRR!!!!!!
Pairs? No. Quads - 2 banks of 4; the SE\30 is a 32Bit machine, requiring 4 - 8 bit 32 pin SIMMs.
Anytime an SE\30 turns on with Bars, its broken traces. You may need to remove the caps and check...
Err.... No. The Classic and Classic II do, and the later year SE and SE\30's. But not all of them do The same with the Mac 512Ke and Pluses; only the later year models have them. This is the issue. You need to open it up and look at the Fly Back transformer and see:
-If it is round then it is...
It is usually a failing Analog board, though the SE\30 Board is having other problem that will be repaired when is it sent out. Check out the usual suspects around the flyback transformer. And checked for cracked solder joints around the harness jacks; if needed - DESOLDER(!!!), clean up and...
Welcome back JSArchibald. I have not seen you post in a long while, now I know why... congrats!
The problem is a major issue with larger caps, as finding a solid state version of them is almost impossible to get as they are hard to find if they exist.
Smaller caps on the Logic board are easier...
I tried with the Classic II, which has a similar set up to the LC II and the CC.
The GLUE Chip prevents it from becoming 32Bit and surpass the 10MB RAM Limit these boards have.
Ha! The WallStreet G3 Series you have to take apart 80% of the casing and the battery is in the bottom plastic case in a Pita-pocket slot just forward of the keyboard and the drive bay. Its hell to get too! The 190/5300 is just as bad!
Congrats on the Mac. You should open her up and replace the clock battery no matter what, and make sure it is not one of those ticking time bomb Maxell Batteries! A fresh Clock battery will keep things going when it is off.
Then take out the floppy drive and clean it up and lube it. Also blow...
Do you have both RAM and VRAM in the system? If I remember correctly the LCIII has 4MB on the board but it needs a 256K, 512K or 1MB VRAM SIMM in the RAM Slot. The VRAM Slot is the bigger RAM Slot on the board.
The system's logic board needs a recapping, that's for sure.
You need to wash the board in a mix of alcohol/ammonia/distilled water mix of something like 1/1/10 or so. Slosh it about for about 5 minutes and then dry it out with compressed air. If you do not have compressed air, a hair dryer...
You need the "special" IIc Serial cable and plug into the "Printer Port."
The IIc Serial is similar to the SuperSerial card on the IIe/II+. If I remember correctly, it should be in "Slot 1" so PR#1 should activate it.
It being a Din 5 (old Audio/Mic 5-PinConnector) to DB25 connector, you could...
Everything looks fine from this point, as I have several CFs to boot PCMCIA Mac Laptops with. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Next steps is to trim the System Control Panels and Extensions. You don't need Novell Networking and IBM TokenRing (as examples.)
I recommend getting PowerPC Checker...
Did you pull out the heads or flexed them too much when moving them for cleaning?
If you did, you killed the drive by misaligning the heads. No way to fix that unless you have an oscilloscope,
I have several G3/G4 iBooks with the CF/IDE-ATA on them on OSX and they work fine with it! But CFs are pricey when you get past 64GB and there is a lot of false advertisement/counterfeits out there (seen a 512GB SanDisk CF and it turned out to be a fake that is a 128GB CF. DAMN!)
@Trag - :D...
Ha! I need you guys to think... really.
in the 8Bit world, it took 10 minutes for an 8K program to load up. This is true for Commodore, Atari, Apple, Coleco Adam, Matell Aquarius, Radio Shack TRS 80 and Coco systems...
Now imagine a Mac 128K loading up its 32K System 3. How long would that...
I wish I had $200... But I'll see what I can do.
Galdot, Omidimo - nice, but I'm looking for a 7200 RPM PATA. The 60GB I put into this unit is a 7200RPM and it is quick to boot and launch apps as far as G4s go. Lets just say I'm spoiled. HA HA! But thanks! Let see if they have 7200RPM Versions...
The SWIM in the IIsi does not handle a 400K Drive well. Any from a Mac Plus down will work fine as well as any 800K Mac SE with the IWM Chip Will.
The 400K Drive requires that the IWM Chip talking to it can adjust voltages to speed up or slow down the disc rotation. The SWIM can not do this as...
Only the Apple II series uses Cassettes. Steve Jobs the Mac removed from using cassettes starting with the 128K, and with the Lisa.
There are Tape Back Up systems for the Mac but they are not a standard cassette like those used in the 8bit world.
