Nice one! I brought my old Mac XL (I'm 99% it's a SunRem, but I haven't booted it in years....) to my apartment the other week. Still hunting around in my stuff for the original skinny button mouse, or at least a compatible one. Then I'll fire the beast up.
I understand wanting these...I did...
Makes me wish I still had my old Mac magazines. I had all the MacUsers from 1996 until the Macworld buyout up until about 2001ish. MacAddict from 1998ish until about 2003? Dates are off the top of my head and are likely a little off. I had a bin full of those, and another full of MacWarehouse...
I think there's something next to the power plug, I was asking about it in an earlier post. Could be a switch. It is a prototype, so it's a gamble if it is or ever was functional. Even if it was it could be a proprietary interface made of unobtainium.
I'd say the swap is the best bet, especially since you've already got a donor. Maybe the cut case could have a bigger hole cut for a window? Could be better looking at least, either to show the guts of a Classic, or perhaps in building a Macquarium? Just trying to think of things to do with that...
Maybe a case swap with a dead Classic is in order? Or, could it be covered with an Apple sticker or something else? That would be an easy four second fix. Either way, good deal. The Classic and Classic II (ditto with Performa counterparts and 128k) are the only compact Macs yet to fall into my...
Good deal! I love it when you find a local pickup only auction that's actually close enough to justify buying; they always go for next to nothing. I like that the Pro keyboard and Mouse came with it too.
I lived in a town near a ski mountain I was working at two years ago, and the guy who ran the dump was a JERK. One time I saw a decent looking PC tower so I decided reuse is the best form of recycling, so I'd grab it. Boy, did I get chewed out. "Once it's here it's registered with the State...
I'm pretty sure it's just a bubble that will pop eventually. Then us normal Apple collectors can go back to buying things on eBay. I should probably cash in on this and sell everything with "~~~ STEVE JOBS!!! ~~~ * APPLE * ~~~RARE!!! L@@K! ~~~" in the title when it's just a common Spindler era...
I love the dump, and I second the "what if" and "too late" dread. Where I live now we just have curbside pick-up, no place to go searching. Where I used to live they had a sweet pick pile, but then they did away with it when they started charging to dispose of CRTs. I got cool stuff there back...
Winning bid: US $1,281.00 8-o
Expensive for a drive of unknown condition and unknown connections... Still cool though. Hey, to each their own, right?
It almost looks like it has the same footprint as a compact Mac. Too bad we don't have any dimensions for it. The connector next to the power...
Speaking of DuoDock horror stories, I just remembered this story:
The old house I lived in with my Mom and Step Dad as a teen didn't have the most even floors in the world. Seems to be common of houses from the 1700s... The DuoDock faced at a slight decline. One time when I ejected it (after...
Sweet score! Your 250 makes me want to dig out my old 230. Of course you've got a nicer active matrix display. Used to use mine with an original DuoDock and 13" RGB monitor.
Pretty cool! I was expecting the price to be higher actually, it's just over $300 so far. We'll have to see what the final bid ends at in just under a day. If I didn't have to spend money on all these bills I'd consider it. Being a grown up isn't as cool as I pictured it when I was 12. Although...
Undamaged case parts might have been good for art projects of some kind...maybe cut out the top Apple in a circle and make a clock? I'm guessing it was too beat for an iMacquarium.
I too wouldn't have been surprised if it booted after drying out.
