I grabbed myself a G4 1.33ghz iBook a while back, i use it as my carry around laptop, lovely little machine. Just bought a 1gb ram chip to give me 1.5gb ram. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong on this, but before I committed to buying an iBook, i spent a week researching the models. I'd owned...
Hi everyone
I bumbled my first post by putting it in the Nubus section by accident, instead of PCI mac. That will teach me for using my phone! lol
I have 7x Hitachi Ultrastar Ultra320 73GB SCSI drives, which a friend gave me recently. I tried getting one to work on my Powermac 8500, using a...
(Accidentally posted this in the wrong section, was meant to be in the PCI Mac section.)
I'm having serious problems getting my 8500 to recognise this drive.
As I'm not confidant with my SCSI knowledge, hoping someone might be able to help me out.
I'm connecting the drive up, using a 80 to 50...
I found my sonnet installer software, turns out it DOES install software for checking the card. It's called metronome. Running the software, reports my card is running at 337mhz and I have 512kb of L2 cache. I guess this means the answer to the system profiler, is no, it does not show up the L2...
I use my Classic for writing and only a couple of months ago, I installed illustrator 3 and designed a rear panel to fit on the back of an Amiga 600 case? Part of a raspberry pi hack I was building, I used the vector made on the Classic to have it laser cut from a piece of acrylic.
All in all...
Hey buddy
Thank you for all of that! And thanks for the link!
If the Sonnet Encore I have installed does have onboard L2 cache (I'm unable to find out, I only have an extension installed and no actually software to look at the card) then surely it would show in the system profiler?
In fact...
Thanks for that Trag, do you still use SCSI in your Umax? My intention would be to completely replace my SCSI drives with IDE devices. It certainly would be a lot easier to source drives.
Lid is off, first thing I noticed. CD-ROM has jumpers on 1,2 but no jumper under TERM POWER. Now if I remember my SCSI, the last drive should be terminated?
This power supply is now, well new in that I bought it off eBay before Christmas. It seems to be working fine. The lock ups only seem to happen when I'm copying data from the cd to the hdd.
Which is why I'm just about to take the lid off and fiddle with the cables and the ID numbering. See if...

I checked out the prices of ACARD's on eBay, taking in to account the chance I could end up with a non compatible card. I've decided to settle on using SCSI or Ultra SCSI drives in the Powermac.
Thanks guys for helping me out on this, I've still a couple of problems with this system I need to...
I'm using Toast on my 1.33Ghz iBook, I'll check the setting thanks!
I'll see if i have a spare drive, before taking this one apart. I want a backup plan, in the event things go south.
Hi guys
The current setup in the 8500, has an 80gb Seagate ultra scsi installed with a converter and then on the end of the cable is the stock optical 8x?? speed drive.
I tried copying some files off CD to the HD and the darn thing kept on locking up a quarter of the way through copying. I...
Hi there
Lately I've been having issues with copying files from CD to HD and I think it might finally be time to swap from SCSI to IDE. Was hoping someone might be able to direct me to a card that will do the job.
I dont want SATA, just plain old ATA, i've loads of old drives at hand, so would...
Mine lasts for about 45 minutes, but I know it is just a matter of time before it goes. Which is annoying, because I still enjoy using my Pismo for typing, I've yet to find something to best its ease of use.
Hi buddy
I saw this unit only recently on eBay, with it being local / good condition / working, I figured it would probably cost less in the long run then shipping the one you have over to me and then buying the bits to get it functioning. I was going to email you this morning :D
At least...
