Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I understand and hope that you can find your parts. If your's is like mine, the paint is a different color so doing a part swap isn't that simple. The rear cover on mine is also different than a stock TAM. It has vent holes on the bottom of it.
My Bose unit does have a serial tag on the bottom...
I carried mine up the stairs by myself and it wasn't really that big of an issue. I've got long arms but it wasn't un-doable.
I really would love to get my ANS running. I also need a lock for it so it can put it all back together.
Damn man your proto TAM got destroyed? That's awful. Your TAM (with the bronze inside) looks like mine. I've never seen another like it before. The plastic on mine is super fragile.... So is your entire proto unit destroyed :( sadness? My EVT TAM also has the headphone jack style ports on it...
I have 1 brand new in box set so I know it's all there. Even have the receipt for it.
The proto TAM components but really in great shape and an awesome machine.
YIKES! Good luck man. I've got some of those PSU's out to be looked at and they are pretty special. Let me know what you can do with a swap as I might need that here at some point.
Doesn't need a PRAM battery to work/start. You can just press the power button on the back of the unit OR on the keyboard.
There is a CUDA reset button on the board you should press before you try to start it up. Sounds like it has a cap issue which might be the culprit.
Nearly all of my TAM's which is a gaggle at this point, came with the chip but I don't have them in. They work without any issues. Given the corrosion, I wouldn't install it as it could cause more issues than doing anything positive.
Check to make sure the Bose unit has the appropriate power voltage selected. Sounds like it probably does but always good to check. Keep us posted and my fingers are crossed for you.
Hello,
I'm not sure able acetone. I do know that vinegar will neutralize the acid but not entirely sure about acetone. I would do vinegar and water mixture (50/50) then rinse with just water and maybe some rubbing alcohol.
Hap
The card with the heat sink is a Sonnet 400Mhz accelerator. They are quite rare. They came in 300/400/500Mhz. The 500's are really tough to find.
I would clean that ROM slot but I don't think the ROM chip is required for the unit to work... I don't recall having any in my units.
I know where...
A drill press (or mill) and a 1/32 end mill below the parting line. Replace the battery, then I use beige caulk so if I ever need to get into it again then it's just a razor blade.
I found a list of ~1875 that are going out of business. Luckily the ones near me aren't on that list. We will see though, I would be really sad if they went under like that. I never know when I need them but when I do, they make ish happen.
On an aside. I DID get the ANS to boot. I did some...
