Durosity’s conquests and collection

Steady on mate, that's a dangerous road
It is! It just means I have lots of space for more junk! I should really post pics of it post tidying.. for posterity.
Well done on reaching that milestone. The challenge is keeping it that way!
True! Although I have done it in a way that also means I have more storage space so it shouldn’t be as hard to keep it tidy.. but as we all know it just takes one haul to ruin that!

Where on earth do you find these treasures?! I swear folks in my area never used Apple gear in the 80’s and 90’s. Somerset and Devon is devoid of mac goodies, and if you do find something they stick ‘vintage’ in front of it and try and charge £500 more for a broken hunk of smashed up plastic.

I'm in Wiltshire and the situation is similar; patience is mostly what is called for and the willingness to pick stuff up in person rather than have it shipped. Also watching the trading post here; a lot of stuff just circulates around the UK MLA contingent.

In the old days (earlier this year), the trick was to wait for @joshc to buy something he didn't need which would then inevitably end up being in my cupboard until I lost my temper and gave it to someone. Inconsiderately, he has now decamped to the antipodes. Isn't it a shame when ecosystems collapse? ;-)

Yes, please! I need know that it is possible to sort everything out.
:)
I will do this shortly! It’s already starting to look a little messy again 🤣

I travel the UK with a friend for stuff. We enjoy road trips! Although I’ve had to curtail them due to my changing of careers.. but eventually ill get back to it!

And now you can start giving me things instead! All hail the new ecosystem! Also damn Josh for abandoning us.. I’m only slightly jealous.
:ROFLMAO: And now the down-under MLA'rs are working that out! :)
Is that where men plunder? Cos they’re gonna be plundering SE/30s soon!

I shouldn’t be buying anything.. but I noticed something on eBay the other day and took a punt on it. A Macintosh IIci that doesn’t power up. Not exactly common.. however it had 2 things of interest in it.. today it turned up:

And then I got really excited

It also had a SuperMac thunder/24 card!ad84beea-bdac-4c95-9a58-b17d978691e8.jpeg

So I’m rather stoked! I’ll hopefully get to pick it up from my friends house over the Xmas period and be able to test it all out.

Awesome find, I'm so happy for you! What are your plans for it? I'd probably use it as is after troubleshooting the box. Someone already tiptopped it! :D

See now that’s the question.. I’ve already got a IIcx in my setup in my study, along with a Quadra 950 for 040 fun! So.. do I replace the cx with the ci? Do I use it in one of my SE/30 (assuming it’s the revision that could be used for that.. ).. do I just put it on display? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i Buy.. but never actually think 🤣

<snip> is this the gateway to Amstrads and IBMs and BBCs and Amigas and….? 😬

I’m currently playing around with MAME’s realtime SparcStation 1 emulator (20MHz CPU). It reminds me how weird, powerful, ugly & slow GUI RISC Unix workstations were in the late 1980s to early 1990s.

A world away from Macs, which are recognisably the same kind of platform, despite the massive changes in the underlying technology.

It’s a kind of prelude to another, actually Physical Unix Workstation I really have. Though I have to fix the RTC and splice together a native to VGA video cable.

The real value of all different platforms is that they embody different concepts of how to go about doing computing. Like the ZX Spectrum, with its a amazing Single-Keyword-Entry, Syntax-perfect editor!

Have fun!
