Durosity’s conquests and collection

He found it in an abandoned house that he was demolishing, behind a hidden door with a 8100 and many 486 PCs!

I only just noticed this... I know that some of us collectors are a bit odd but building a hidden room for stashing your 486s in seems perhaps a little excessive...

DVD-RAM. awesome. love that stuff.
I had to cannibalise two broken units to get one working, but I’m glad I’ve now got one!

Well, it was in a large house in a very rough part of Newcastle (apparently there was a big riot there in the early 90s and half of it was demolished after it) so maybe they felt safer having stuff hidden!

The 486s were obviously there as a distraction in case anyone discovered the room. The hidden room was for the 8100.

So last week I won an auction on eBay for 5 big boxes of random cables and such. I didn’t actually mean to win.. I put in a bid of £5.. and it went for £1.86. It wasn’t that far a drive away, so went down there one morning and picked them up in my little Zoe! While I was in Nottingham we went for a tour of the caves.. if you’re ever there I’d suggest you do it!

So today.. I’ve started sifting through the boxes.. as expected the SCSI cables I wanted are there, the AAUI transceivers.. etc.. but then just as I was emptying out one of the boxes… I saw this.

It even works! I have a couple of them, but the plastic is broken.. this one is intact (although I imagine it’s only time until it does break!) but either way I’m chuffed, I’ve wanted a working one of these for my “Directors Edition” PowerMac 5500/275 for ages!

Nice. I want the PowerBook grey one.

I finally got a copy of MacFormat issue 1, all for the low low price of £1.43! Been looking for a copy of this for years and it was always a ridiculous price!image.jpg

I really shouldn’t be spending money on anything at the moment, but this popped up for just £52 and I couldn’t resist. I’ve always had a deep love for the Marathon games, and I hate myself for binning my old original triangular boxed copies of Marathons 1, 2, and ∞. And this even has the three unused stickers inside it still! image.jpg

Well, this is something.. I was dumping stuff at the local recycling centre and there were some iMacs. I was only able to grab one (you’re not supposed to take anything and the staff are very protective of it) so I chose the Flower Power, even although it was missing the bottom case.. the others were just graphites.

Well done. I hate that UK recycling centres don’t let you take stuff away. How did you manage, just quickly whilst nobody was looking?
