Mac SE/30 general crashes (Bus error, Address Error, etc) recap done years ago.

Hopefully if anything did get eaten through, it didn't wick into the blind vias or the internal traces. I had one recapped by someone else that clearly still had electrolyte hiding in it, and threw my hands up and went with the nuclear option. If you know the history of your board, being the...

Mac SE/30 general crashes (Bus error, Address Error, etc) recap done years ago.

Did you wash, not just swap but totally immerse the board, when doing the initial recap? With mine, someone didn't, and it wicked corrosion and died years later.

I fixed the insulation issue with HS1 hitting the safety ground in a way people familiar with this will either love or hate. Since the printed base is too thick and makes it impossible for any joints to touch the chassis on the bottom, even under extreme pressure, I just took the existing...

Oh, right, I saw yours while lurking the thread with the RPT60-A builds! If I had access to more than basic soldering/crimping tools, that'd probably be a much nicer way to go about it, especially since then you don't have to run jump wires for the two chassis/safety grounds.

Yes, it's just the top pressing down on it. Maybe the 3D bracket is too thick? I got it from a local place, it's the STL from Retro Frog on Printables (site). I wonder if I'd have better luck tapping right into the bottom of the chassis like you did.

Mine is the Dyna Comp one, so I'm using the 3D printed bracket that sits inside, and the fit is extremely tight. The two heatsinks, according to the RPT-60 datasheet, should never have continuity, and that was actually how I blew one of the safety fuses when I first tried running it with the lid...

The Meanwell RPT-60A is just too tall to be a safe fit in the LC 475 power supply's chassis... The two heatsinks touch the top housing's edges even if you try to insulate them by brute force, and I'm afraid if I leave the top off instead, it's just going to short against the case's RF shield.

LC reboots when a floppy disk is inserted

It could always be the lighting in the photos themselves, but those joints look too green and dull for this to have ever been recapped or washed.

    LCIII EPROM?

This research (authored by a user here!) helped me figure out which ROMs were compatible with my IIcx and IIci, and gave enough introductory info to help me replace my failed mask ROMs with cheaper flash ones... After a bit more help from other users here, who alerted me to the obvious but...

    Which LC/Performa to buy?

About the plastics, one of the great things with pizza box LCs is that cases and parts machines are not only easier to find than other Macs, but that the LC, II, III, and 475 all use the same footprints, with the main difference being the possible floppy drives. Luckily those are transparent to...

Steve and the laws of physics.. tales from Bandley 3

This is great, not just the characteristic Jobs response but the thought of a professional designer seeing something that's already sound from an engineering/physics perspective and not wanting to upset the balance. I'm hoping at least one person out there has an account of the time Steve...

SE/30 recap - capacitor pads lifting, looking for advice

Well said about the actual rotation distance, that's an important clarification I never mention. You'd want to fatigue the legs and nothing else. They usually break farther up, with the force concentrating at a thin/weak area that's not right on the pad.

SE/30 recap - capacitor pads lifting, looking for advice

So in theory, all we'd have to do for it to be considered sane in general is to twist SMT electrolytics off of all kinds of PCBs?

    Recapped IIci intermittent clock counting

I took a second look at my IIci, as I've never had to touch the RTC in it yet. It's not only a different pinout from the previous-gen 8-pin one, but a different package entirely. I might have to probe mine now for better reference, since I was looking at a IIcx where the clock circuit had...
