Quantum Hard Drives - which models can be (reasonably) fixed?

Ok found a site that seems to let me make one for cheap. (xometry) Only paid around 3 bucks shipped...not sure how they are making a profit on that but whatever. :P (decided to only have the LPS one printed since this one had no minimum part order. Sculpteo had a $50 order minimum so did not...

Quantum Hard Drives - which models can be (reasonably) fixed?

Oh nice. I may just have both printed. Depending where I go to have this printed there may be a minimum quantity to print so I will end up printing all the variations of this anyways. :D And yeah the tape is pretty thin. Don't know how thick it is. It's either the same thickness or slightly...

Quantum Hard Drives - which models can be (reasonably) fixed?

These are photos of my drive. It seems very similar to someone else's who'd made their own via cut up PCB that you based your part off of: Perhaps one addition you can make to your file is to add extenders to make it thicker in case the tolerances are off instead of making it a single...

Quantum Hard Drives - which models can be (reasonably) fixed?

Oh that's pretty cool. I will have this printed off and can try it with my Quantum ProDrive LPS 250MB drive. It has a single park bumper under the platter like that one that this part would probably help fix. Head gets too close to the hub so I'm pretty sure it's got a expired rubber park bumper...

Anyone thought to make a tool for this?

Cool. Is that part applicable for a Quantum ProDrive LPS (250MB capacity)? Oh rather then using glue I could use double sided tape to hold it in place. I'd rather not have the glue degrade at some unknown point in the future and break off and get somewhere it shouldn't. :P Would like to see...

Anyone thought to make a tool for this?

On the subject of 3D printed parts, has anyone made a 3D printed bumper replacement for certain failing Quantum drives? I have a 250MB drive that won't init. After looking up this model I found it has a park bumper under the platter that has liquified. (unlike the other Quantum drives however it...

Anyone thought to make a tool for this?

Oh neat I might bookmark that one. I wouldn't want to use it on in this case though. It would still require I do prying action at it while I pull the faceplate down. A dedicated tool should be a set and forget type of deal where you don't have to put pressure on it while working on pulling down...

Anyone thought to make a tool for this?

Curious about this. Has anyone thought to make a 3D printed tool for making taking the front faceplate off a Macintosh Performa/LC 520/550/575 chassis a little easier? I noticed something about how the clip works that would make this viable I think: I posted about this as well here: For...

New Internal HDD in Color Classic

Hey posting to mention that this thread helped me sort out setting the correct SCSI ID for this drive. The pin out is indeed wrong from the one website I could find one for this drive. I still can't get the LED activity thing to work. I think the board on this drive literally doesn't have the...

Building an internal grayscale card for the SE/30

I see someone mentioned Classic/Classic II versions which understandably would not be practical or even possible. But what about the Macintosh SE? It was always a shame that one didn't have an equivalent to this despite having a PDS slot. Perhaps maybe the CPU can't handle it but since it does...

    Hidden menu bar

There's two adjusters for screen brightness most compacts. (except the Classic line of Compacts where they no longer sport the front brightness knob). The external one you can interact with and one on the analog board that you have to take the back cover off to reach. If you set it too high the...

Color Classic VGA Mod. the CORRECT way

I suppose if you have the means you can try and add a sync processor and PLL. But would the motherboard even know how to change resolutions for the internal monitor? Was the internal monitor on the 5xx series all-in-ones multisync capable? If so, I would guess the mystic upgrade would at least...

Color Classic VGA Mod. the CORRECT way

I'm pretty sure the internal display was not multi-synce capable much like some of the older Mac displays at the time. The modifications made would make it run at 640x480x60hz and only that. You'd have to physically modify it again to go back.

    change drive icon

I could be wrong, But I don't recall System 6 supporting custom folder/file/drive icons.

    Asante MacCon SE30 affecting video

Seems the original poster didn't link his attachment correctly. Here's a working thumbnail link to his full image for those needing a closer look: I found that removing "sml_" from the file name of the jpg linked to in the first post, you can view the full sized image. (I'm guessing the...
