What kind of mouse is this?

Yep, I have the later Felix that LGR reviewed. It's weird, it feels really imprecise and worst of all, at least by that point, it's super cheap and plasticky. I can't speak for the original like you have there, but the second version I wouldn't pay more than $5 shipped for. Both are probably more of a novelty than a pointing device you'd actually want to use.

Found an image of the back of the box. Doesn't seem to be a mouse, more like an early, minituarized touch pad. Up to 4000x4000dpi? :-o

Nah, it's a mouse-like device - the thing in the middle is permanently attached to the device and you moving it around is how you move the cursor. There's nothing touchpad like about it (except that it's awful).

Yeah, it's something like an ungainly cross between an analogue joystick, a touchpad and a mouse. Watch the video I linked above, it'll show how it works.

Aha, now I see it. It's the fingertip version. 1990? System 6? Up to 4 monitors? Was that even possible back then?

Absolutely!  The Macintosh II ( 1987 ) supported as many displays at you had slots to put display cards in ( in this case qty. 6 ).
